Guest guest
Dear Thimappaji, Namaste! Yes there is individual difference, therefore in ayurveda a person of Vata prakruti should not do the most difficult of the asana like Shirsasana, similarly Pitha prakruti due to inherent competitive nature would do well with difficult asana like Shirasasana and Kapha though can do and should do activities which strain the physical organism to its limit (ofcourse this is within the capacity of the individual) like say should do continuous asanas, surya namaskar 12 in number minimum with a short break and then move to pranayama. But again all this is within the framework of hatha yoga only and not other types of yoga. Basically (this is my personal opinion) in kali yuga we have inherited weak body and therefore no matter what - everyone in spiritual saadnaa should do some form of exercise to withstand the vigours of doing meditation etc., for a long time. In a way Nimhans are partially right in classifying based on food people eat - actually they should do it based on ayurveda because today look around majority i would say 95 percent are eating combination of rajasic and tamasic aahar and very few knowledgeable 5 percent go for satwik food. I, thus, prefer to teach individual students rather then a group as it becomes difficult for vata, pitha and kapha to follow a common regime though what i teach caters to vpt (as well as dual prakruti people) with an addition only if the pitha or kapha student asks or complaints that he or she is not getting the adrenal rush. This reminds me of a story of RamaKrishna Paramahansa. When a disciple of his was ridiculed about his guru the disciple kept quiet and when rkp heard it he scolded the disciple about his coward act by not retorting. In another incident when another disciple fought back and rkp scolded him for showing his agression. In private when a close disciple question rkp he replied, former disciple is a timid fellow and i want him to be a bit more brave therefore i chided him and the second was more aggressive so i wanted him to learn to restrain himself therefore i scolded him. But in the present context such individual guidance is difficult due to mass teaching which is in fact like a drill exercise rather than a gentle execution of an asana. Now coming to your stating about individualizing based on their respective make-up what i feel is while there are many different paths to cater to different people ultimately it all boils down to only one path. As one of the masters of Radha Soami teaching said, WHEN THE LORD IS ONE AND HE IS WITHIN US AND WHEN HE HAS MADE ALL OF US EQUAL HOW CAN THERE BE DIFFERENT PATH FOR DIFFERENT PEOPLE. Therefore superficially it looks one path cannot be for all human beings. To this there is quote in bible that KINGDOM OF GOD IS WITHIN US so why are you searching me in jungles, mountains, sea-shore etc., There is a nice marathi song which states why are you searching me at Rameshwar and Kashi etc., i am inside you. With warm wishes, Sudhakar HARI OM TAT SAT! Cheers! )
