Such an example of silent member is me. i am continueosly reading all the messages for three years without any break but have been reluctant to share anything from my side as i always think admist the great and learned souls here, my contribution will be none more than negligible. what i have learnt from Gyanis in this group cannot be expressed. Therefore who are on the higher side of saadhna must keep on contributing this priceless information/ experience/ knowledge with other, as this is also a great saadhna. you cannot know how someone somewhere can be benefitted with your contribution.Sudhakar ji since you are a yoga teacher, please donot percieve it otherwise as hundered of readers read all messages with great interest. regards SO HUM

Longevity According to the phrase " Shatayurve Purush " any man or woman has the right to survive for 100 years. Ishopanishad observes:- ......... that with a view to accomplish good deeds, one must long (desire) to survive for 100 years in this world. In other words if good deeds are not accompanished, one cannot survive for 100 years. This sentence in Upanishad indicates that longevity depends on good deeds. In this universe of action every thing depends on action. The author of Bhagwat says:- ....... The origin and destruction of a man is from his action. In this world, human beings get happiness, fear and distress (suffering) due to their own actions. Man depends on destiny but destiny itself is a part of action (Bhagwat Gita). ...... Action is the destiny of man. Hence those actions should be performed through which life can be passed cheerfully. A man has a right to survive for 100 years only if he performs sublime actions. He should always keep this in mind. Which way (course) is to be adopted to survive 100 years? The answer to this question has been given by our Rishis and Munis by codifying their tried experiences. ...... First of all a man should control his sense of taste and should be very judicious in the matter of eating. Besides he should take regular exercise and observe celibacy. .....there is still more to come, please continue reading and then in that context the name of the herb will be disclosed. Remember just consuming herb will no doubt contribute towards longevity but a healthy lifestyle will go a long way. With warm wishes, Sudhakar HARI OM TAT SAT! To continue from where i left off..... It is said in Bhagwait Gita:- that with a view to develop all good qualities particular attention should be paid to diet. As this diet produces immunity from various diseases and gives strength, man will feel happiness and would have a desire to love other human beings. Which diet can impart the aforesaid qualities? The answer is obvious. The diet, which activates salivary glands to produce sufficient saliva to provide energy for bodily activities and satisfy the appetite can keep a man always happy. On the contrary, taking of unnatural and spiced foods breeds several diseases. Only good diet and a sound digestive system are capable of keeping the body free from diseases. Half of the stomach should be filled with food, one fourth of it should be filled with water and the remaining one fourth should be kept empty for air. Food should be thoroughly masticated. This will produce saliva in sufficient quantity. Students, university professors, teachers and office clerks have been found to disregard this dictum. As a result of this they are generally seen suffering from indigestion, constipation and piles. Out of the seven dhatus of the body semen is the most important. (in females it is the RAJA.... NOT RAAJA PLEASE NOTE). Its adequate quantity can only free the body from the clutches of diseases and it is only on the strength of the semen that longevity can be attained. Owing to the supreme importance of the semen, it is essential to preserve it. Loss of semen will result in the shortage of blood which in its turn will give rise to aneamia, general weakness and ogther such symptoms. This is the reason why our Rishis and Munis have sung the importance and glory of brahmacharya, in beautiful verses and have suggested balances diet together with proper exercises as most essential for the maintenance of bodily and mental health. ......etc., etc., etc., In the preceding lines a description of attaining longevity is given based on ancient scrtiptures. Now we describe a well known herb which has been acknowledged as a promoter of long life by our ancient Vaidyas as well as experts of the modern allopathic system of medicine. The name of this herb is Herpestis Monniera, also called as Indian pennywort, Camel's hoof, in Sanskrit it is called as BRAHMI, Hindi-Brahmi, Bengali-Brahmamanduki, Gujerati-Karbrahmi, Marathi-Karivana, Telugu-Saraswathi, Tamil-Vaellorai, Malyali-Kutakam, Kannada-Timire, Konkani-Ek Pani, Latin-Hydrocotyle Asiatica. Habitat: This small weed is common all over India, growing plentifully in moist localities and river banks. Chracteristics: It is a small herb with leaves resembling the foot print of a camel. It grows in the grass mostly on river and canal banks and spreads rapidly during the rainy season. Its leaves are used in medicine and are available with grocers throughout the country. Brahmi and Mandukaparni are both herbs of the same species and their shape and properties have been described to be the identifical in " Nighantus " . Here we shall confine ourselves to the opinion of experts regarding the property of Brahmi to bestow longevity. Pandit Devadutt Sharma of Ashtang Ayurvedic College, Calcutta (Banoshdhi 4-5) writes that Brahmi possesses the property of lengthening the life span much more than the effect it is known to have on increasing mental faculties like power of thinking, memory etc., of a person. Modern scientists have also come to know that a person named Jinchigiyan of Chine attained the age of 250 years by the regular use of this Indian herb. On learning about the properties of this herb British and French governments appointed a committee to investigate into its chemnical ingredients. Besides this committee several other foreign experts have also busy in researches about this herb for a long time. The results of the research of a very eminent English doctor and scientist were once published. In that it was written that this small herb possesses the miraculous property of curing various disease. For different diseases it should be used in combination with different herbs. But if only two leaves of it are eaten (taken) daily it adds to the vitality and longevity of man considerably. Another scientist writes:- the greatest speciality of this herb is that the use of it in a little quantity adds to vitality, strengthens the parts of the body and provides power to fight with diseases, old age and death. It is written in Vagbhatt that if a man fries a little Brahmi or Mandukparni in ghee and takes it with milk regularly for a month and abstains from taking cereals, he can survive for a great length of time. Similarly it is mentioned in Charak Samhita that if the juice of Brahmi or mandukaparni is taken with one fourth of the powder of Glycrarhiza with milk, it cures all kinds of diseases and bestows longevity. The dosage can be varied according to the constitution of the user. Note:- Experts have recognised the Brahmi of Uttarakhand (northern India) to be the best. It should be administered after the system has been cleansed by vomitting and purging. The above is the exact quote from the book with all spelling, grammatical errors etc., as it is. Hope the desirous one will make an attempt to consume after proper ritual and benefits. With warm wishes, Sudhakar HARI OM TAT SAT!
