Vigyan Sheath - The mind is an instrument of ignorance, duality, it always see everything in twos- good/bad, light/darkness, male/female. As such it never sees the reality behind duality. Also, the mind, no matter how powerful it gets, cannot access some things, like what is beyond time/space. All these problems are fixed in the 4th sheath, called the Vigyan, which roughly transates as Pure Intuitive Wisdom. This is not intuition as most people think of the word, which is just advanced functioning of the mind. The Vigyan Universe is one of golden light, the Land of the sun, where only Rishis were allowed to enter. It is the state where there is no space time- Beings of this Universe know all that can/will happen in any universe/space/time. The beings of this Universe have a weak self-identity- they realise they are One, but Many at same time. All the higher level Vedic Gods like Shiva, Vishnu etc belong to this level. So Shiva knows he is Shiva, but he is also Vishnu, Ganesh, Indra, & the unknown Brahm, all at the same time. They might appear as separate when talking to beings of lower levels(like Earth, & even all the heavens), but in their own level they know they are One. All the Avtaars come from this level, as this is the highest level one can stay if one wants to help others. Most Indians Yogis avoided this level, preferring to jump into the Pure Spirit. This was because generally they had no desire to help the world progress as a group( & they ignored the world as Maya anyway). One of few people to study this level was Sri Aurobindo, who realised that this level is not open to Earth(as we cannot directly reach here- the few people who get Darshan of Gods like Shiva/Vishnu do so on mental/Pranic level. Vishnu looks like Vishnu only on the lower planes, in the Vigyan plane he is seen as Pure golden light). His visions showed him that the original Vedic Rishis were open to this plane, from where they got their inspirations. Sri Aurobindo, who re-commented on all the Vedas, based his knowledge on his experiences on this level. (In his book Secret of the Veda- of which I have written about here many times). The only other people who opened to this level were Tantric Maha-siddhas like Gorakhnath & Babaji(of Yogananda fame). This allowed them to create new, perfect bodies beyond death, which they use to visit Earth to teach. Most people can never hope to reach this level, & most Yogas dont teach you how either. But if one wants to help the Universe, this is the best level to do so. 5. The Anand sheath or sheath of Pure bliss- In this sheath the whole Universe vanishes. Only pure Chit(the mind stuff) remains. The nature of this Pure Chit is Satogun, so it is full of light. This light stops looking at outside world, & starts relfecting the Pure Spirit(Brahm, Shiv, Narayan). This gives great bliss to the Yogi, who realises he is one with God. If this is practiced over a long time, the Yogi merges into Pure spirit. The Chit at this level is called like a crystal- it purely reflects whatever is placed near it, but is not affected by anything. The bliss at this level, though a million times stronger than anything on Earth, is still nothing compared to Gods bliss, as it is based on Satogun, which is still a part of Prakriti. Until the Yogi leaves even this bliss of Satogun, he cannot merge into Purusha. But this happens automatically with practice, faith & love. with love Shantnu

This is done by tradional Gyan Yog of Vedant, whereby one traces all ones thoughts, back to their source in the spiritual heart(where the causal body lives). This is the approach popularised by Raman Maharishi, whereby we ask " Who am I? " . This is not just an intellectual excercise, but must be done with whole heart & feeling. Most people(99%) are not ready for this high level Gyan Yoga. The idea is that by tracing the " I " feeling back to its source, we reach pure Chit(or mind stuff), where conciousness exists( & which is te source of " I " feeling). This pure conciousness is full of Satogun & can reflect Purusha or the Spirit perfectly. It is also whats called Anand sharira or body of bliss. Regards Vigyan Lok, the few people who have reached it, like Sri Aurobindo, Gopiraj Kaviraj(a great Tantric), all say we must 1st merge into God, but then our desire to help others must be so strong that we can return to help others. with love Shantnu
