The 5 bodies-1

Namaste,

 

The Pure Spirit is surrounded by 5 bodies or sheaths. Corresponding to

these are 5 Universes, & the different beings that live in them.

 

1. Annamaya(made of Food) or Physical - this is what we live in most

of the time. Its called annamaya, as food is its main sustenance. It

consists mainly of humans, animals plants etc.

 

The way to worship God in this body is by Hatha Yoga, & also by Karma

Yoga.

 

2. Pranmaya(made of Pran) - This body is made mainly of Pran. It

contains the Nadis that carry Pran to our body(like blood vessels

carry blood). Our main physical desires like food, drinking, sex come

from this level. The physical body only needs rest, & that too just

3-4 hours a day.

 

There is also a Universe made of Pran above our physical body, with

its own creatures that only live in Pranic world. These are the

demons(rakshas), lower angels(yakshas), lower Devas. The beings of

this level are petty & small minded, & usually a big ego. The stories

of ancient Gods that rained hellfire for the smallest mistake are for

the Beings of this level. These beings arent very advanced, & cant

give us any wisdom, though they can give us lot of siddhis.

 

All the heavens & hells are located at this level, & most people never

go beyond this level.

 

The way to worship God at this level is by Pranayam, also by advanced

Hatha Yoga.

 

Note that although the Pranic world is one of ego & desire, this

doesnt mean Pran itself is. This is the lower, uncontrolled Pran.

Higher, pure Pran gives us enlightenment. Higher Pran is represented

by Gods like Hanumanji, who have a strong faith, courage & strength.
