Guest guest
Babaji, Iam reposting the same details as i posted last year as follows. Pongal - The biggest festival celebrated here in Tamilnadu. Pongal is celebrated to thank Mother Nature and God. The first harvest of the year cycle is done in this day 15th Jan ( this year, it may vary occording to the tamil calender yearly mostly on 14th or 15th of Jan ). The first reap of harvest( RICE ) is boiled in a fresh mud Pot and presented to God and Mother nature along with Sugarcanes, Turmeric and flowers. Usually the Sowing of Seeds is done during August ( Month of AADI in Tamil Calender ) and the harvest is done in the first day of THAII of tamil calender ( 15th Jan ). The following day of pongal is celebrated as Maattu Pongal ( meaning Pongal for Cattles especially to the OX / Bull and other cattles with took part in cultivation and harvesting). During this celebration, all these cattles are well bathed, Horns colorfully painted, decorated with Flowers and fed with good cattle feed, and thanked. The next day is a community gathering day during with all people from different places gather in a river shore ( if not in a place near water source ) or in a temple choultry and exchange the sweets and snack. its just celebration to mingle with each other and forget enemity if any. , " Aum " <beirut_ka_baba wrote: > > , " Senthil " <senthil_sym@> wrote: > > > thanks senthil... in punjab we celebrate Lohri on this day.... will you > tell something about Pongal festival. how why etc. > > thanks > > AUM >
