Savitur is the famous Sun God worshipped in the Gayatri mantra, yet he

isnt very well known.

The Sun represents Wisdom, full knowledge, victory of the Divine

forces over fores of division. This sun, when it shines, burns away

all negativity, & destroys all asuras.

Surya is an important Deva in himself. But before Surya can shine &

give us wisdom, we are stuck in the world of darkness.

Savitur is the God, a part of Surya, who descends into the World of

darkness to guide the Sadhak stuck here. Savitur descends to the lower

worlds, & guides the Sadhak till he reaches the dawn of enlightenment.

Savitur has 2 golden horses, signifying his power to see unity in

duality. He travels with his Shakti Savitri, who is the brilliant

light of knowledge who shows us the light, but doesnt burn us.

He has golden hands, with which he drives away demons & sorcerers. The

demons here are our own negative thoughts which exist in the

subconcious, which is symbological plane of night.

Savitur is the Deva of transformation, who slowly transforms us till

we become ready for the descent of the Pure Sun of knowledge. Since he

comes down to our plane & works with us, Savitur is the most important

among the Sun Gods. Thats why the Gayatri mantra is so important in

Vedic Dharma.
