Guest guest
Om Namah Shivaya. ShantanuJi explained Beautifully. Incidentally today being " THIRUVANNAMALAI DEEPAM " - celebrated all over tamilnadu, again its a festival of Light, it explains the death and what we carry over. i will write the story behind the celebration of this festival after explaining the meaning of the story ( as explained by Ramana Maharishi who lived in this very town and got Moksha in 1950 ). Every individual soul is encased in three bodies- the Karana, Sukshma and the Sthula. The food and breath sheaths make up the gross or physical body, sthula sharira. The breath, emotionand intelligence sheaths make up the subtle or astral body, sukshma sharira. The intelligence and bliss sheaths make up the causal body, karana sharira. The three bodies are the different vehicles of our consciousness. They are encasements for the inner being. Only the physical body is a body in our usual sense of the term. The astral has the same form as the physical body but is made up of subtle matter. The causal is of the form of an egg, a body of light. The Sthula is easy of destruction but the other two soon reconstruct it in another birth and the fetters binding the soul remain unbroken. If by great effort the Sthula, i.e., the physical body, and also the Sukshma, the finer mental sheath, are destroyed, the Karana-the causal body, still remains storing in it all tendencies and Karmas and it brings into again and again the Sukshma and the Sthula bodies and thus the cycle of births and deaths goes on and the soul continues in its agonising bondage. It is only when by the Grace of the Guru, the Lord Shiva - the Paramatman - takes the field and at one stroke destroys all ignorance that the Karana Shareer is totally annihilated resulting in the complete destruction of the other two grosser sheaths and the soul - Jiva - stands unfettered, face to face with the Lord and becomes free- Mukta and merges in the Formless Shiva. About the festival " Thiruvannamalai Deepam " Thiruvanamalai is a town in Tamilnadu which has a very old Shiva temple, where during the month of Karthigai ( present month in Tamil calendar ), on the full moon day it is celebrated. This is a place where God is worshiped in the form of a FIRE. About 100 tons of Ghee is poured in the montain top and the fire is lite around 6.00 in the evening. Lord ARUNACHALA is worshiped in the form of JYOTHI. There are three different stories told behind this festival, one is where Bramha and Vishnu taking SWAN and BOAR avatars as a challenge to see the head and Feet of Lord shiva in the form of a Jyothi. The second is on this very day Lord Shiva Created Lord Muruga t save devas from an Asura. the third being as follows ( for which the spiritual meaning is explained at the beggining of this message. ). Once there was an asura after great mediation Lord shiva offered him a boon. with the help of this boon Asura was able to construct 3 forts within which he lived. The boon he got was, if a fort was destroyed by some one it will be reconstructed immediately. So even if some one first destroys the first fort and enters to destroy the next fort the first fort will be reconstructed before they destroy the second fort. Since he had such a strong place to hide, he started to fight with devas and torchored them. Every attempt by devas and demigod to destroy his fort and kill him was in vain. since it was reconstructed before they could ruin all the three forts. then all the devas and demigods apporached Lord Shiva. Lord shiva helped them and with one single shot of arrow with fire destroyed all three forts at a time, so that the all three forts were destroyed at the same time. this day is celebrated as " Thiruvanamalai Deepam " . The real spiritual meaning being explained in the begining. HARA HARO HARA ARUCHANALA. Hara Haro Namachivaya. Shivaya Namah Aum.
