My fellow Sadhaks :

All over the world , devout hindus are

celebrating 'Vijayadashami' . In North India , it s the celebration

of Sri Rama's victory over the ten headed Demon Ravana . In west

bengal , bengallees are celbrating the victory of Devi durga in all

her different manifestations , over many of the asuras over a ten

day period and in South india , Sri lalithambika's victory over demon

bhanda is being celebrated .

The underlying theme is the same - the Triumph of Good over Evil !

But my question to all of you is there something

called 'good or bad' in a Sadhak's dictionary ?

May i also quote A passage from SRIMAD BHAGAVATAM?

" Good and evil of this world of duality are unreal,

are spoken of by words, and exist only in the mind. "

- Bhagavatam, XI, ch. XXII.

ASHTAVAKRA GITA ALSO SAYS

One established in the Absolute state with an empty mind does not

know the alternatives of inner stillness and lack of inner

stillness, and of good and evil. 17.18

THE POINT IS - Ten headed demon like Ravana thinks he is

protecting 'raksha cukture ' when he is attacking the YAGNAS OF

RISHIS in the hermitages of the forest . SO , FROM HIS POINT OF VIEW

RAVANA IS PERFORMING HIS SWADHARMA THAT OF PROTECTING THE RIGHTS AND

RESPONSIBILITIES OF A RAKSHASHA KING !

This is a narrow interpretation - the esoteric interpretation is

Ravana the ten headed monster IS internal RATHER THAN

external .... ?

so the debate continues ....

please let me know what do you all think ? is

therE 'good or evil' in the world or is it all in our imagination

only !

As an Earth Mother , i always remember this

" What is done out of love always takes place beyond good and evil. "

Maybe our Mother of the universe is also an embodiment of

compassionate cruelty ! She does destroy all the internal demons

within us - kama ,krodha , lobha , modha ,matsarya and

ahamkara .....

on this note , let me wish you all a very happy happy

vijayadashami !

Sarva mangala Mangalye,

Shive, Saravartha sadhake,

Saranye Trayambake,

Gowri narayani namosthuthe

Salutations to that Goddess,

Who is the greatest good among all the good,

Who is forever peaceful,

Who grants all boons,

Who is the ultimate protection,

Who has three eyes,

Who is white in colour

And who is Narayani.

>there is no good and evil in this world.Good and evil is game of

illusion or maya. The one who sees the truth sees no good and evil.

Everyone is doing there work according to the supervision of God's

nature perhaps

I say evil is good .It is this " evil " in ones self that teaches that

we pine for God and it teaches love

I love Gibran's lines- " of the good in you i shall speak but not the

evil for what is evil but the good tortured by its own thirst and

hunger when its thirsty it seeks from the dark caves... "

Thanks Aradhna, i like khalil gibran's quote. I am also of the view

that there is no evil in the world.

Adi-shakti manifests itself in two opposite poles of plus and

minus..and the mating / struggle / war of these two energies is what

the manifested world is.

Now positive energies are not good and negative are not bad...these

are just names given by us to understand.... all energies are doing

their work to merge back into the supreme.

What looks evil today may be good of tomorrow. evil and good are

thus relative terms and have no absolute meaning.

hi!

Gibran is also one of my favorite poet philosophers! His 'prophet'

is almost a bible with me .

incidentally , the following lines from Kabir das ji came to mind

Bura Jo Dekhan Main Chala, Bura Naa Milya Koye

Jo Munn Khoja Apnaa, To Mujhse Bura Naa Koye

I searched for the crooked, met not a single one

When searched myself, " I " found the crooked one

AS AUMJI HAS POINTED OUT THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS ABSOLTE EVIL OR

ABSOLUTE GOOD !

at any point of time, a Sattwic result may come out of a tamasic act

and a tamasic act may result in a sattwic result ! For example, SRI

Rama's act of slaying Ravana by itself was a 'tamasic' act but the

consequences were 'sattwic' for the rest of humanity as it ended the

ruLe of Rakshasas ! in fact , Ravana himself attained liberation

while being slain by Sri Rama . Similaly , the disrobing of Draupadi

BY Dusshasana was a 'tamasic' act but the resulTS were sattwic -

because we had the Kurukshetra war and but for the Kurukshetra war ,

there would have been no 'Bhagawad Gita. "

A knife has two uses - it can be used to kill another or slice an

apple ! the knife itself is not a bad instrument but the use to

which it is put makes it bad or good!

Thus , there is no such thing as good or bad but it is thinking that

makes it so !

as plato says " There is only only one good, namely knowledge, and

only one evil, namely ignorance. ... " - That knowledge is knowledge

of the self or atma vidya and ignorance is avidya !
