Guest guest
Namashkar, Suratha & Samadhi, the king & businessmen whose story starts off the Durga Saptashati, have a deep meaning in their stories. 1st Suratha, the king who is kicked out of his kingdom. Suratha is formed from Su-ratha- or good chariot. Chariot means carrier of good thoughts. He is the pure mind that rules the body/mind system, & only allows good thoughts in. Suratha is attacked by his enemies, bad thoughts. Even though they are fewer in number, they defeat him, showing that merely having good thoughts isnt enough. Surath is then betrayed by his ministers- meaninh his consciene, & he has to run. The 2nd person is Samadhi- if there was any doubt the Saptashati is an esoteric text, they couldnt make it more obvious than using a name like Samadhi. Samadhi is a businessman kicked out by his greedy family. The sons of Samdadhi are our thoughts that keep coming in to break Samadhi. Samadhi is the kicked out of his home, the mind. Both of these goto Rishi Medha, whose name means Intellect of love. He tells them the stor of Saptashati. The intersting thing is, at end of Saptashati, both of them get a chance to ask what they ask from Godess. Surath asks for worldly power, then power in heaven(he is the current Manu, or lawmaker, for our Kalpa), while Samadhi asks for Moksha. This is interesting feature of Saptashati- it can be used for both materialistic & spiritual purposes. Another interesting point- the Durga Saptashati has 700 shlokas, same as the Bhagwad Gita. love Shantnu
