It is said that a devotee named Maidas was the one who found the

Shaktipeeth of Chintapurni devi. There are numerous Shakti peeths.

When maa Sati had burnt herself in Daksha yagna, Lord Shiva become

aggreived and carried her body on his shoulders and wandered in the

three worlds. For removing his moha/attatchment, Lord Vishnu cut the

body of Maa sati with his sudarshaa chakra. Wherever the body parts

fell down those places are alled the SHAKTIPEETHS

Maidas' father lived n a village called Athar. The father was a great

devotee and likewise after him his son spent much of his time in

worshipping devi.Because Maidas wasnt able to give much time to the

family business so For this reason Maidas' elder brothers seperated

him from thier joint household.Desite of all this Maidas never let

his daily worship and bhakti suffer in the least and his routine

continued like that.

One day Maidas was passing through the forest. He was on his way to

the house of his in laws. When he got tired he sat down under a tree

to relieve his fatigue. He fell asleep for a little while under the

shade of the tree.In his dream he saw a divya kanya whose effulgence

was great. The girl said- " stay at this place and serve me.Your

benefit lies in this alone " This kept resounding in his mind even when

he got up.

later When he was coming back from the house of his in laws, he

crossed this place again. He abruptly stopped at this place. Feeling

anxious he settled himself again under the shade of the tree which

was known as CHCHAPROH in ancient times. He statred praising Maata

Bhagvati.- " O mother, If I have worshipped you with a pure heart then

give me your darshana please and and give me those orders so that my

doubts are vanquished. " He praised and remembered he repeatedly and at

last Durga maa gave him darshana in her four armed form.Devi maa said-

I have been residing under this tree since a very long time

(To be contd)
