Just as you have said, she would hear a voice so clearly & startled, would open her eyes expecting someone to be there. She would even ask people around her if they too had heard the voice, but they never did. At first she thought she must be going mad. (It is well known that some people suffering from some mental health disturbances often 'hear voices' & I have often wondered how we can determine the difference between it being an 'illness in the mind' & a 'spiritual message' from outside the self. Do we have any spiritual doctors/psychologists out there?) Anyway, she soon learned that she wasn't going mad & realised it was a gift. Whenever someone who was not well sat beside her, a voice would tell her what was wrong with them. Or sometimes she would have a message for them from a deceased relative. She now works with this & runs a wonderful 'healing centre' where people go to her with all sorts of problems. She is a deeply spiritual woman & has helped many, including me. When I first went to her, it was a very powerful experience. She spoke the words of my father to me & said he was communicating to me from the spirit world. I told her this could not be true as he was not dead. But at the same time I felt puzzled, as the words she spoke were my fathers exact words - word for word accurate. It was a frightening experience & one which I will never forget. My father was abusive & these words were definitely his. It was as if he were standing in the room with us. A few days later my aunt in Edinburgh rang me to say she had found out my father was dead - & had been dead 3 years. My mother had kept it a secret all that time. So he was standing in the room with us that day. So, Ansuya, whatever you hear - take it as a gift & try not to be too startled. It is a wonderful thing & if you welcome it & just go with it, who knows what will unfold. Its all for the good. With love Farah

You are not hallucinating - trust me on that. The sound varies as per your degree/depth of concentration. They say there are usually 10 different sounds and ultimately you should concentrate to such a level to hear bell sound and it is this sound that will pull you up and not light which you will also see. Many yogis without guru(master) on the strength of Pranayama have risen upto daswan dar (tenth door) and have not succeeded in rising up further and unfortunately are still loitering in the astral world. (ofcourse in bliss - but still not sufficient) A guru is a must and he can take you only upto where he has risen (By that I mean if he is not a kamil murshid/true realised master) something akin to a s.s.l.c (matriculation) level teacher can teach upto that level only and wouldn't be able to guide you in Ph.d. same way in spirituality and only a living master would be more ideal choice to guide. Hearing sound is a good thing but please remember there are more temptations inside i.e. in astral world then physical world and only a true realised master can guide you inside otherwise you could be lost there. Please do not be worried about sound and don't open your eyes because you lose concentration and ultimately the sound. Believe be you will hear so much enchanting music which is called as celestial or divine music and again you will open your eyes thinking somebody in your house has put on the music. I therefore request you never open the eyes and enjoy the blissful music and what can i say except proof of the pudding is in eating not talking about it. At the moment enjoy the sound and continue with the japa when you will then graduate to hearing the celestial music but still remember you do need a GURU to guide you inside. My sincere best wishes to you to progress further Regards Sudhakar HARI OM TAT SAT - Cheers! ) >Ansuya wrote: > Sometimes during my meditation (i do japa), I hear strange sounds. Do we have any spiritual doctors/psychologists out there?) > Dear Ansuya, these are Anhad Sounds and i will repost my msg on anhad Naad soon. Dear Farah, you have really picked up a strange thread. You know most of the syptoms of Kundalini awakening are somewhere equal to mental disturbances. Of course, when Kundalini awakens, it disturbs the mental equilibrium...and normal men may take a yogi as mentally disturbed. It is like symptoms arising out of Gas/acidity... they are 90% equal to heart attack... only a doctor knows which one is acidity and which one is hear problem. so a yogi can tell the mental imbalance is due to Kundalini awakening or normal psychological disorders. I will relate a real incident of my father's brother. He was a kali bhakta and once a guru came and gave him a kali mantra which he started chanting..exactly how the guru told him. He was doing it while standing in a rivulet...standing on one foot....and then as if there was thunderbolt...and people found him unconscious and brought him home... his guru had already left and he was taken as a gone case.... a mad man. when I was 18 years old, he came to our house... i had heard a lot of bad things about him...so I was naturally afraid of him. But he behaved normally with us. One day when Mom was not there i was listening to radio...suddenly i thought where is Tayaji (father's elder brother)... i searched him in house....and finally found one of the rooms closed... i peeped into the closed room... and Lo there was Tayaji... with a sari...full of make up.. lipsitck and rouge and with a foto of Krishna...he was dancing singing in a strange language. I was afraid..i opened the door with a bang and asked him - Tayaji what are you doing.. he saw towards me like an innocent child, caught doing mischief...kept the foto of krishna back in the temple..and with make up still on... told me - krishna wanted to dance with Radha...so i became radha and was dancing with him. I laughed at him... and told my parents about him..all laughed and told - he is mad he can say anything. But he told me... Prem you are going to cross 7 seas and see many countries because Krishna wants this. Now 32 years after that incident.. when I have seen half of the globe and seen dozens of countries.. i am surprised if he was mad... or we were all crazy not to know his sanity ??? I suggest that you remain careful about this and continue your japa too. Dont become confused and leave your japa.If these are hallucinations actually , it is something not to be ignored you know. And if its a natural result of japa you will know in due time. This is just an effort to counsel a friend with absolutely no idea as to what the fact may be. Guest guest
Bible says a great truth " In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was God " . And this truth is further expanded in Hinduism under the title Anhad Naad (eternal resonance) Anhad naad has been a subject of mainly sufis, faqirs and revolutionary saints, who wanted to remove our doubts from the various forms of devas and creating a rift and confusion among their followers. Anahad Naad is vedanta, it is the integration of all theories into sound aspect of Brahma (Sabad-Brahma). Guru Nanak, Kabir, Raidaas, Bulle Shah, Radhaswami etc had been associated with Anhad Naad. Kabir Says " Kahat Kabir Anand bhayo hai, bajat anhad bol re " Kabir says now the I have started listening to Anhad Naad and I am in spiritual ecstasy. Bulle shah said " Anhaad naad drig theyi theyi baaje " ….The eternal sound is sounding like drums and my whole being is dancing with joy " . What is Anhad Naad. Literally it means the sound which is created without vibration of a physical object. Normally we hear sound when some thing physical (like our vocal chords or skin of drum etc) vibrates and sound waves reach our ears and they start resonating with the vibrations and our mind translates that vibrations according to the information available in its store. But when the world started Manfesting, it started with an eternal soundless sound (of Aummmm)….which further divided itself into 50 basic sounds. With sadhna we can catch those preliminary sounds which have since lost in time. Listening to those soundless sounds and finally reaching the sound of Aum is called Nada Anusandhana in Hindu philosophy. Nada-anusandhaan sadhaka say that any one who starts listening to the sound of Aum…gets Moksha. In a way this is truth also…as listening to a particular sound means, our mind resonates on that vibration and is thus away and above the physical plane…and finally when it resonates the sound of AUM it is one with the supreme consciousness, ….it is one with the Brahma, paramshiva, Krishna or Durga. It is also said, that any one who has even grasped the first Anhad naad, is free from painful death and he goes straight to the psychic level of that sound after death. Naad Sadhna is very simple and only thing required for Naad sadhna is concentration, purity of thoughts and Yama Niyama (of course). One may sit in a comfortable Asnana…and closing his ears with both hands…try listening to the humming sound produced by the mind (natural to all beings). in the beginning 10-15 mnts are sufficient. When one gets concentration…he will feel that there is another feeble sound behind the buzzzzing of the mind. Try listening to that feeble sound while ignoring the normal humming….and after some days we will start listening that back ground sound,…and we will enter the universe of Naad. As per Swami Nayananand Saraswati, there are 10 planes of consciousness which have their peculiar sounds which can be listened by this sadhna. 1 - Samharak Deva loka --- Sound first as chin-chin then anklets 2- Palam deva loka ----------- Sound as that of roaring of the ocean 3- Srijak Deva Loka-----------Sound as that of Mridunga (drum like ) 4- Sahasaradal loka ----------Sound as of Conch 5- Ananda Loka ---------------Sound as of Trumpet 6- Chidanada Loka------------Sound as of sweet flute 7- Satchitananada Loka------Sound as of veena 8- Akahanda Ardhmatra-----Sound as roaring of Lion 9- Agam Loka ------------------Sound as of many flute like instruments 10- Alakh Loka----------------- Sound as of Nightangle After these 10 lokas there are another secret 26 lokas…and finally the sound of AUM, the sound of eternal creative force of the universes. But even if we are doing any other sadhna, we may still listen to some sounds and most common of them are heard by those who are doing Mantra Japa…When Mantra is done by Mental repetition only,.then slowly some sounds are heard. These sounds may be like 1- Some People singing together…words not understood 2- Some high pitched voice speaking our name 3- Laughing sound 4- sudden flash of thunderbolt 5- Water flowing smoothly. 6- Some people talking in a strange language 7- continuous sound of flute or any such instrument etc These sounds denote that a sadhka's mind has established in a particular plane of consciousness…and it denotes progress in sadhna. With Love and good wishes Aummmmmm
