Guest guest
well said , babaji ! This remins me of a story that is often told in Zen Circles! here it is in a nutshell A university professor went to visit a famous Zen master. While the master quietly served tea, the professor talked about Zen. The master poured the visitor's cup to the brim, and then kept pouring. The professor watched the overflowing cup until he could no longer restrain himself. " It's overfull! No more will go in! " the professor blurted. " You are like this cup, " the master replied, " How can I show you Zen unless you first empty your cup. " There are many ways to interpret this little story. In fact , my dance teacher always used to say " you have to 'unlearn' everything that you have learned from your previous teacher ! you have to start anew " Strange as it may seem . this is so true ! More so in spirituality ! may i please be allowed to share a powerful quote from Jiddu Krishnamurthy ? " Meditation is the emptying of the mind of all thought, for thought and feeling dissipate energy. They are repetitive, producing mechanical activities which are a necessary part of existence. But they are only part, and thought and feeling cannot possibly enter into the immensity of life. Quite a different approach is necessary, not the path of habit, association and the known; there must be freedom from these. Meditation is the emptying of the mind of the known. It cannot be done by thought or by the hidden prompting of thought, nor by desire in the form of prayer, nor through the self-effacing hypnotism of words, images, hopes, and vanities. All these have to come to an end, easily, without effort and choice, in the flame of awareness " Something that babaji said also makes a lot of sense - Yes , be like an innocent child ! NO PRECONCEIVED NOTIONS , PLEASE ! In Bible also , in the Gospel of Thomas , it is said " Jesus saw some infants at the breast. He said to his disciples: These little ones at the breast are like those who enter into the kingdom. They said to him: If we then be children, shall we enter the kingdom? Jesus said to them: When you make the two one, and when you make the inside as the outside, and the outside as the inside, and the upper as the lower; and when you make the male and the female into a single one, that the male be not male and the female female; when you make eyes in the place of an eye, and a hand in place of a hand, and a foot in place of a foot, an image in place of an image, then shall you enter [the kingdom]. Guest guest
I believe that I have the capacity to start anew. Sometimes it feels like I am wandering and have lost my way and then I also say to myself 'What is the way?'. Is there in fact a 'right way'? What good does self laceration do? No good and nothing can come of it but isn't it amazing what we have to unlearn or 'let go of'. I was taught many of my self lacerating ways and I do wholly forgive those who taught me this. So, thank you for sharing your thoughts. I am very excited to be a part of this satsang.
