The beauty of Hinduism is that it no where contradicts science.

Rather Hinduism is the only religion which supports and explain

science too…particularly the Tantra.

To understand 10 Mahavidyas, we should first clearly remember the

making of universe. Whatever happened elsewhere happened in our

solar system too. So we should keep in mind, how our Sun evolved.

First there was nothing but the dark matter. Then slowly the gases

gathered and started circling around a center. Due to gravitation

forces the gasses became a heavenly body and due to immense pressure

and temperature, the inner core of the gas cloud burnt . Then this

heat came out, gasses were more compressed and our Sun came into

existence. This sun attracted wandering debris and slowly the

debris gathered and took shape of the planets. Our earth too was

attracted into Sun's orbit and due to the heat and radiation

received from sun, the life evolved on the Earth. The same sun when

its hydrogen is exhausted will become a Red giant and will gulp all

nearby planets, and will destroy the life on earth in any form.

The oceans will evaporate, planets and living beings will lose their

water substance to immense heat of Sun….and eventually Sun will die

and so will all the planets…and once again there will be kingdom of

Dark matter.

If we just meditate on this scientific fact, we will be better

able to understand the working of 10 Mahavidays. Sun is also called

Hiranyagarbha…the golden egg mentioned in Manu Smriti,

Hiranyagarbha manifests the world, it operates the worlds and it

will finally become Rudra and will destroy the worlds. So Sun is

Hiranyagarbha for our world. Sun started creation as Brahma, Sun is

now holding, serving and saving the universe as Vishnu and in the

end sun will become Rudra and will destroy his own creation, and

will destroy himself too in the end.

The 1st Mahavidaya i.e. Kali denotes the initial conditions of the

universe when there was nothing but dark matter. This cycle of

creation and destruction is mocked in day and night. In the night

when the Sun sets….there is darkness all around. So Kali's time is

from 12 midnight to dawn. She rules the dark, the unmanifest.

Kali's idol is fearsome and many are afraid even to see towards

Kali. Our great sages were so intelligent that instead of

explaining all the attributes of a god, they made their idols which

at a glance would tell us all about the attributes of god. Our

great scriptures, Dhanurveda, Gandharveda, rahasya gatha and Nidan-

shastra were burnt by muslim invaders. Nidan shastra explained how

a god is depicted as an icon to show its attributes.

For Example Kali is shown Naked, riding a dead body. She is

laughing She has four hands. In one had she has a sword, severed

head in the other. One hand is in blessing sign and another has a

skull full of blood. She is shown residing in cremation ground.

Now if we study iconography, we would see the meaning. Naked

denotes the whole world is destroyed. The world is as her clothes

as during the manifestation period, she makes the universe and is

hidden behind the universe. When there is no universe, she is not

hidden and she can be seen in her full glory. She is riding a dead

body. Living beings are manifested by Kali, when Kali gets out of

the universe, the living beings become Shava (dead body).

Destruction is denoted by sword. The blood filled skull denotes she

drinks the blood (life sustaining liquids in the body). When sun

will become red giant, all the liquids will be evaporated. This is

denoted by drinking blood. She resides in Cremation

Ground….obviously when the whole living life has ended Kali lives in

her full glory so shamasaan denotes end of life.

One of Kali's hand is in blessing sign. This signifies that if her

blessings are with us, we may survive the great destruction and see

her form in full glory.

Kali though fearsome, is very kind and loving Mother. She destroys

for new creations. She wears garland of skulls…. All the jives are

killed by her but she retains their mental vibrations and after

giving them rest, re-creates them.

Kali's time is from 12 midnight to dawn…. There is no sun only dark

matter. Creation has not yet started and last creation has been

destroyed.

Worship of Kali, destroys Tamoguna in us, makes us fearless and

helps us in gaining wisdom to cross this difficult ocean of creation

and destruction.

Jai Mahakaali

Wonderful Babaji. Can I just add:

Kali wears a skirt of arms- both left & right. This shows she cuts off

our karmas- both good & bad so we can get Moksha.

She also wears a garland of 50 skulls- which represent the 50

alphabets of Sanskrit language(with the 51st Om being Kali herself).

Each of the Sanskrit alphabet is a Beej Mantra- as Sanskrit is a

language of energies. By wearing a skull of these, Kali shows she is

the Mistress of all Mantras, in fact all mystical means(Tantra,

Mantra, Kundalni Yog etc).
