Russell Brand plans to seek enlightenment to gain control over his bed-hopping habits and drug addiction, by chanting Hare Krishna's mantra.

The comic, 31, has devoted himself completely to the Hindu God, and regularly attends Bhaktivedanta Manor in Watford, Herts, where he is popular with devotees.

Brand, recently caught smuggling a pair of brunettes into a Travel Inn - first took up the sect during his battle with hard drugs.

"Russell visits regularly. He has a very deep spiritual side, has read many Krishna texts and talks to us a lot," The Sun quoted a fellow devotee, as saying.

The star, who has bedded Kate Moss and Sadie Frost, ditched heroin several years ago. His pal said: "He did it with the help of our devotees. He feels indebted."

The telly host also jokes about Krishna in his stand-up routines, as Last night he said: "Hare Krishna devotees taught me reality is an illusion and that we ought to be bold when it comes to haircuts. Look at them, they look great."

Followers believe the Hare Krishna mantra brings a higher state of consciousness when heard, spoken, meditated upon or sung.

Yeah, I saw that guy on some MTV awards show and heard him say Hare Krishna. He was really obnoxious on the show. Sometimes that kind of obnoxious can be funny but I found the guy to be mostly annoying but if he is trying to clean up his life and better himself spiritually then all you can do is wish the best for him.
