Thread with more than one knot

can a holy thread have more than one knots, that is three, five, seven etc.? we were discussing this topic and one of my friends told the quality of brahmin is based on number of knots on the holy thread!!! does that sound bizarre, yes it does even to me, so am here with the question with the experts.

Not an expert by any stretch of the word about religion or anything else but I do know this. The qualities of a brahman have nothing to do with thread or any specific number of knots in that thread. Please consider this verse from the Bhagavad-gita.

 

 

Peacefulness, self-control, austerity, purity, tolerance, honesty, wisdom, knowledge, and religiousness-these are the qualities by which the brāhmaṇas work.

 

Becoming pure, honest and tolerate etc. are not qualities that can be had by tying a thread around your body. We must work internally to obtain the qualities that Krishna described to Arjuna as belonging to a brahman.

 

Concentrate on developing these qualities in your life and you will become a brahman. Leave the religious gamesmanship to others and develop Krishna consciousness instead.
