Please advise if you can er breaking of glass items..

Hi,

 

Please help if you can. Everytime we buy a new glass item for our house, it usually chips or breaks when I handle it, even though I am careful while handling it. I don't like to keep broken glass things in the house, but some of these items are big and expensive(e.g aquarium, decoration piece, vase, table top) and I can't throw them. Why is this happening? Is there any way to stop this happening.
