On the eve of the scheduled departure of Srila Gurudev (last night), Srila Bhakti Sundar Govinda Dev-Goswami Maharaja, to England for the next leg of his 23rd World Tour, it is only natural that Sripad Goswami Maharaja begins his Sunday Feast discourse by discussing the mood of Union in Separation.

0:04:03 - Srila Guru Maharaja said, in the beginning he thought that certain things are being emphasized--connection with Guru, for instance--but that, eventually, he would develop some direct connection with Krishna. In time, though he came to realize that Guru is everything. To be separated from the devotee is the most unbearable suffering.

 

0:06:14 - We're told the only thing that can have devastating consequences is Vaishnava aparadha. Sometimes it is conflated with misbehavior, but Vaishnava aparadha--Guru aparadha--is something else. To go against the line, to go against Guru, is not the same as being overwhelmed by the senses or to have a flawed personality--that is a given.

 

0:07:43 - Jiva is an *impoverished* shakti. She needs shelter--association. Hearing from the Vaishnava's conception, *that* will awaken substantial Krishna Consciousness in another--service and association. If one gets the service and association of an Uttama Adhikari, they can bypass the progressive, analytical stage.

 

0:09:45 - Some devotees, after the disappearance of Srila Prabhupada, asked Srila Sridhar Maharaja if it was possible that Srila Prabhupada might come again to this planet. Maharaja replied that, yes, anything is possible by the divine will of Krishna. Sometimes, wants to keep that person with *Him*, so he sends some other irresistibly charming agent to bring someone to another level of dedication. Of course, some will say they will take nobody else but him (Srila Prabhupada), but, when he *does* return he will want to know, "So, what have you been doing while I've been gone?" If we reply, "We've been waiting for *you*!", that's acceptable.

 

0:11:15 - We are told by Srila Guru Maharaja that separation penetrates to a deeper region of the heart and minds of superior substance than union. Now, no one will willfully invite that, but still, this has been assessed by spiritual experts. The only person I can think of who willfully embraced this position is Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, which is extraordinary. He understands everything about union to an infinite degree, and he chooses to mine the depths of separation because that causes the heart--it pulls the heart.

 

0:12:28 - Srila Gurudev will be continuing his tour to London tomorrow, and that will be a sad situation for those who remain behind. The pull of the separation will penetrate a deeper region of the heart that will make union more appreciable.
