holy symbols for girls

Dear everyone,

There is always suggestions from my folks that girls should not wear rudrakshas and aum symbols.

It is also said that aum symbols tattoed to the body is not good and may cause harm.

Is this true and can a girl tattoo her body with holy symbols or is it prohibited to do so.

So does gender reallt matter in this issue?

Dear Madam,

 

I do not think I have seen any girl or lady wearing Rudrakhsa

till today. So I feel it may not be right for one to wear.

If You notice in Devi temples too, for ladies another bowl

of red Vibhuti/Sindoor is kept while for Gents the normal

ash coloured. This gives us the clue.

 

It is better not to tattoo symbols of Aum,Hanumanji

and such other ones, on ones body, cause we are not in

pure state of existence all the time, during

daily ablutions, during conjugal state etc.

and at such time the symbols if touched with impure

hands ,may loose the efficiacy for which they

were first put there.So better forget it.

This goes with Gents as well as ladies.

 

Ladies may alternatively wear Tulsi Mala.studded in Gold

or silver.

dear friends

 

any person making a statement in a public group on the net enforcing

a code based on gender bias owes stantiation through classical

corroboration. i have done extensive research on rudraksha and have

bought and assimilated various puranas and upanishads that narrate

the significance of these rudraksha.

 

shivapurana, vidveshwara samhita, 25th chapter, 46th verse thus says:

 

"sarvashramanam varnanam STREE shudranam, shivajnaya dharyam sadaiva

rudraksha"

 

there are so many other classics which clearly mention that rudraksha

can be worn by any person without any gender bias.

 

since the shastras clearly mentioned that any native of any caste and

religion, man or woman, can wear rudrakshas, natives may wear

energised rudraksha and get the benefits. the only condition that is

written is that since lord shiva dwells in these rudraksha and each

rudraksha is attached to certain dieties, they need to be energised

as per the puranas.

Dear Panditji,

 

I have not quoted any classics.

I have mentioned my personal observations only,

which may be accepted or rejected,

depending on the individual.

Since Your goodself had quoted classics and the Rudraksha as

You mentioned can be worn even by a "STREE" , we shall

take that as correct.

But I still mantain that i have never seen any

women wearing Rudrakhsa.

In the same way if I take the classical

quote

"Shudra Ganwar Pashu Naari "

sakal taadna ke adhikari,

I would certainly not subject my wife to taadna

because it was quoted in the classics.

In the same way if classics have to be adhered to in

complete then, i would not watch the face

of my new born if born in a particular Nakshatra,

and not blend my modern thinking and twist them,

as per my convenience. If I have to abide by classics only,

then i would abide by all injunctions mentioned for

Gadanta births etc.

 

Anyway, this is subjective as well as relative

and also individualistic approach to matters.

Dear Bhaskar Bhai,

RAM RAM,

There are vast meaning of TAADNA as - To beat & To keep close watch & To understand.Therefore Baba Tulsidaas Ji used this word keeping in mind its different usages for individual.As far as Rudraksha is concern any one can use but it is not in pratice in our society to wear it by STREE except SANYASIN.

to remove any confusion over the ambivalent views of scriptures, i

agree with what bhaskarji said that each person has his own views,

practices, faith and beliefs. neither me nor anyone can enforce a

code as such.

 

as rightly observed by many, the shastras have so many ambivalent

rules. for example the shivapurana says that rudraksha are available

in four colours and shall be worn by the four castes respectively.

till date i have not seen white and black round rudrakshas. most

rudrakha available are only red and yellow. if this rule has to be

strictly followed, all brahmins and shudras cannot wear any rudraksha

because thier respective white and black colour rudraskhas are not

available. so this rule has become redundant due to non availability

of these two coloured rudrakhas.

 

in another verse in shivapurana it is mentioned that a wearer of

rudraksha must not eat nonveg and garlic. when the same shivapurana

mentions that rudraksha can be worn by all four castes including

kshatriyas and shudras who invariably eat nonveg, this rule too has

become redundant.

 

hence let us all take a holistic approach and let natives have thier

own decisions to make based on what they think is feasible and

correct.

 

we are here only to impart information and it is up to the natives to

reckon what they want.

Very truly said.

At least when it comes from a person like you,

then we know that it is authentic. Next time

if a lady asks me about Rudraksha, I can tell her with

authenticity based on your quote, that she can wear the

same.When such discussions are done, then some tathya

(Fact) comes out like the above where you proved

through Shastras that yes it can be done.

Sir I agree taadna has got vast meaning and interpretation can

be done in many ways.Physical taadna,mental taadna, taadna due

to financial incapability, due to torture through speech etc.

Taadna also means to keep watch as you said, to get the

meaning,to understand, to gauge, to go beyond, to fathom

the depts,to keep under check, etc. Baba TulsiDasji ki Jai ho.

aur aapki bhi, for putting the record right.

 

But when i used the taadna word, good came out of that. See you

have posted me a reply after such a long time on JR. Thank You.
