Hi Jessica;

I agree with those also encouraging other process such as shirodara,

essential oils, and please do not forget to encourage him to do more

cleansing of the liver and 3rd chakra energies (AA will help with the

humbling/surrender of ego to Divine Grace). My understanding opened

when I read some healer's book stating that an addict's reason for

using is primarily spiritual. It caused me to look much more deeply

at the dynamics, as well as to honor this reason instead of putting

attention so much on fault. For many I find physical as well as

spiritual understanding helps see and stick with the way out. I would

share more offline if y ou wish AyurDoula at sacredwindow.com.

Dr. John Douillard once gave an achololic friend an herbal recipe he

has used for many /many types of addictions also - It was very

valuable. Note the ashwaghanda will have some similar supports as

ginseng, withough tending to increase pitta so much. I believe this

is the correct formula and certainly won't hurt - equal parts:

brahmi

ashwaghanda

mahasudarshan

amalaki

guduchi

As I understand, sometimes we begin to move energy upward from first

and second chakra level and then we don't know how to deal with too

much or impure power level stuff. Pitta mud gets in body, mind and

spirit. Also sometimes we see our headiness as unhealthy (isn't it

so?!) and choose what we know to become more in tune with emotional

body (too bad alchohol becomes such a crutch). Sometimes this

self-management or self-medication becomes a strain at power level or

on the liver in some other way (the alchohol itself). I'm not

expressing my understanding very well this eveing, but perhaps there

is some value, certainly to understand supporting the body to convert

fire chakra energy into something higher vibration, light/heart.

Shirodara is so good! Rose essential oil and other methods for this

pitta among them too, in addition to purifying the liver, all helping

take the burden a bit off self blame, even though responsibility is a

very important part of the process too.

Ginseng may provide what he needs, though for most people I have seen

it may give some strength and also fuel the passions which, if other

things are not purified may backfire.

Dr. Lad told the story of one time in India, where his clinic is very

close to the hospital and his MD colleagues there would send their

most difficult ("we give up, what can you do?") cases to him. An

alchoholic man was scheduled for a liver transplant with cirrhotic

liver. The transplant arrived. It too was cirrhotic. Dr. Lad took

the client and in 6 months liver enzymes normal. In 9 months, liver

biopsy 100% normal from what they could see there also. Key herb,

Kutki. Also feeding fresh sugar cane juice, also fresh yoghurt daily

with pinch of baking soda, and of course other things in the protocol.

All this to say, liver needs attention.

Wishing you strength and clear guidance;

Ysha

health benefits, so it certainly wont hurt! Thanks!
