Guest guest
Almost all of us assume that we will be able to have children, even if we are not sure we want them. This potential is important in fertility treatments because it profoundly affects the way we feel about ourselves. Author has put the seed in the word "potential" in the last statement, and tree will grow in later posts. Recently, author watched a TV show which emphasized how difficult it is for women over 35 to get pregnant. This is just the type of information that perpetuates our cultural "programming" that after a certain age, women become "too old." It is true for men too, who loose capability or libido. And if a person is told he is insane 1000 times, he will not believe if someone tells him opposite. The professors, scientists and doctors are a respectable strata of the society and the superficial level of their collective thinking, more trust on observations and data rather than the secrets of human body has brought us to this sorry state. We are on a suicidal path to destroy our bright history. And only way the journey can be retraced backwards is through you, prospective moms. Because many couples are now choosing to postpone pregnancy until later in life, it is important to reassure all that thousands of women over the age of 35 have no difficulty whatsoever getting pregnant or delivering healthy babies. The fact is that, in the last 20 years, births to women over the age of 40 have increased by 50 percent. Some of the discussion in this and few more subsequent posts will come from spiritual ayurveda. Many think that ayurveda is covered by Brihatrayi (Charak Samhita, Sushrut Samhita, Ashtang Hridaya), but ayurveda's birth is in still ancient scriptures, such as Garud Purana, Narad purana, same statement can also be made about astrology. In the ayurvedic roadmap to fertility there are many principles to be borne in mind. To set them into your subconscious, read these paragraphs daily early morning, just before taking even a cup of tea. The mind is quiet at that time, the best time to plant some good seed in it. Most of population statistics are derived from a large group of people having different quality of health. These parameters do not apply to every individual. For an individual within the population, it can actually be misleading, if not downright inaccurate. To cite an example, allopathy often proposed a model where systolic blood pressure (100+age in years) is considered healthy for people beyond 40. In India, there are several who regularly do yoga, pranayama etc and they have the pressure readings 110/70 at age 80. Although it is true that fertility rates in the population at large decrease with age, this often does not apply to a woman whose ojas state may be far higher than the estimate based on her chronological age. Author was born when his mother was 42, and he has another sister 3 years younger. Think ojas as the measure of health by bioenergy field of the body. It is bioenergy which gets enhanced by brerathing techniques etc as outlined in http://health.ayurveda/message/6754 http://health.ayurveda/message/6794 Perhaps, telling all women over the age of 35 that they will have trouble getting pregnant is like telling everyone over the age of 50 they will get high blood pressure and diabetes — it is simply not true. Secondly, it is possible to conceive a baby right up until menopause. This is why every woman is told by her doctor to use birth control for a full year after her final menstrual period. The case referred by Susun Weed in her seminars (Message# 8914) is an example. If you still think pregnancy at menopause cannot happen, author suggests reading Hot Flashes, Warm Bottles, by Nancy London, MSW. This book details the challenges faced by women going through menopause who have babies. And most important, baby born later in life can be mentally retarded, weak, sick etc etc is simply again a statistical conclusion. If you take these cases, you will find that 90% of the time, these babies were born by ART. Author poses a question here: An ART professional puts several ovums and processed semen in a dish. not all ova fertilise. and those which fertilise are transfered to uterus, why not all grow at the same rate. after all they belonged to same batch number, manufacturing date! On the other hand, when a twin is born naturally both baies are more or less similar in health, intelligence, appearance etc as a general rule. Stress is a large factor in "unexplained" infertility. Infertility clinics capitalize on women's fears — the same fears that are fueled by stories like the one shown in the TV show watched by this author. Few anecdotal cases have shown that women who participate in programs to alleviate stress — such as Yoga, meditation, Vipassana etc have higher rates of conception or healing their concept of fertility. Those who can get these books, please read similar messages by western doctors in book "Healing Mind, Healthy Woman" by Alice D Domar, PhD & Henry Dreher and "Conquering Infertility" by Alice D Domar, PhD can also help you relieve stress and get started on the road toward fertility. The most common, and often interrelated factors of infertility include irregular or lack of ovulation(amenorrhea, Vandhyatva); hormonal imbalance causing garbhgranthi (fibroids, cysts); Shwetpradara(leucorrhea), endometriosis (raktapradara, menorrhagia), and immune system problems. Ayurveda can tackle all these issues, without even a thought of hysterectomy, D&C etc. If factors such as adhesions or blocked tubes are influencing fertility, ayurveda offers Pankchkarma procedures to clear the adhesions as also strengthen ovaries in their function. Fertility is also affected by dietary and environmental factors, such as exposure to endocrine disruptor xenohormones, residues of modern science drugs such as ibupropen. The effect of ibupropen is documented on net far and wide. Often, simple adjustments in these areas can make a huge difference in a couple's ability to conceive. For those suffering from PCOS, even a loss of 5- 8 % weight as a result of hormonal balance gives satisfactory results. In addition, the mind-body connection to infertility has been acknowledged for years. The book by Swamin Sivananda of Divine Life Society, "Manovanchhit Santati" goes very deep into this aspect. But as a urban society we have become so technology oriented that it is no surprise that conventional management of infertility focuses on the body as a hormonal machine. And many couples will undergo expensive fertility treatments, including hormone injections and in vitro fertilization (IVF) before they even consider the emotional, psychological and nutritional factors that could be involved. Author has put warnings about IVF procedures in many posts at ayurveda. About 20 percent of infertility cases have no known cause that can be detected through medical testing. And conventional fertility specialists will be the first to admit that, even with all of this technology, they do not know who will get pregnant. Often when these couples do the detoxification of the mind as necessary, they are able to conceive. The post will be continued further next week.
