What are the implications of using these ? Because something is already implanted in the uterus the body will not become pregnant. The copper releases small amounts of a synthetic progesterone hormone. The hormone was added to attempt to decrease the bleeding and cramping that some women have with the IUD. They are not that effective - I have known many people to become pregnant with them. I have also know many people to have increased bleeding and pain. Condoms are good , they do not alter the body's chemistry and are effective. You can research methods of birth control on the internet. Perhpas some of our group members are aware of natural methods of birth control? Herbs etc? I know that a monthly pill was developed in India - I can not remember the details currently but they only did clinical tests for three months. Keeping track of ovulation can work to some degree but requires a lot of discipline.

OMG <You can research methods of birth control on the internet. Perhpas some of our group members are aware of natural methods of birth control? Herbs etc?> i have done significant research into this issue and thus far the most promising natural remedy appears to be neem, taken internally by the man the effect is apparently reversible, but i am pretty sure that neem isn't necessarily safe to take it on an ongoing basis - in ayurveda it is not considered good for the heart other herbs such as turmeric, queen anne's lace, etc have all been mentioned, but the evidence isn't reliable enough to recommend, speaking as a practitioner with some liability in the matter best... Guest guest
Dear What is your opinion of the risk for ectopic pregnancy while using a copper IUD. How rare is this occurance ? Are there any precautions which can be taken to avoid an ectopic pregnancy ? Does using a condom in combination with the IUD reduce the risk factor of an ectopic pregnancy infinitely as opposed to IUD alone. I am worried about the 1 - 3 % failure rate of IUDs.
