Guest guest Posted February 16, 2007 Report Share Posted February 16, 2007 Namashkar, Yogi Ramdev recently caused an outrage by claiming Astrology & related disciplines are useless. Many Astrologers pointed out that Jyotish is a part of the Vedas- Jyotish means Science of Light. Jyotish is the Eyes of the Vedas. They also pointed out that "Scientists" also dont accept Ayurveda, by which Ramdev claims to treat all disesases including cancer. This has been a problem- many famous Saints like Vivekanada & Yoganada rejected Astrology- in case of Yoganada, even Yoganadas Guru was one of the best astrologers. For this arrogance he had to suffer when he didnt listen to the astrological advice of his Guru, & fell sick. Many Yogis say that with willpower we can fight off the planets, but this is nonsense, as you must know when the planets are about to strike, for which you need astrology! Free will doesnt mean much- as Svoboda points out in his excellent book "Light on Life", planets work by corrupting your mind, so that you will make wrong decisions using your "free will". "Vinash Kale Vipreet Buddhi"- At time of destruction, mind gets corrupted. Even going to an astrologer might not work- Svoboda says that if the planet really wants to destroy you, you might goto a wrong astrologer, who will give you exact opposite advice, making your troubles worse. Of course, the planets are merely doing their job, manifesting our bad Karma! Sri Aurobindo & the Mother have written that these negative Karma enter us as thoughts/mental waves- if are aware 24 hours a day, we can refuse them , but this has to be done immediately. This means we must be aware even while sleeping. One way to do this is use Raj Yoga/Buddhist techniques like Anapsati Yoga, where you watch your breath 24 hours a day. Try doing it for 10 minutes to see how difficult it is! Even then, from most accounts I have read, it takes anything between 10-20 to master this. Most ordinary people cant even think of having such masterful control of their thoughts. Thats why I think people like Ramdev are misleading the people that they can fight off the influence of planets using willpower alone. Until you become a Yogic Master & burn off all your Karma, the Planets can grab you make you dance to their tune. Do other members agree? Even when nobody had heard of telescopes, satellites...our vedic rishis with the help of astrology calculated correctly the times of ecllipes and time of a comet's arrival. Even today our main Pachangas use that ancient methods and predict the eclipses, correct to the seconds. Ramdev is very good person and Hathha yogi, and he has helped mankind a lot by spreading his teachings of hathha yoga to control diseases... but that does not make him perfect. No saint is perfect!! they may be masters in one field but behave erratically on other subjects. Like Osho declared Mantras are useless and there is no power in sound or words....Like Prabhupada called Vivekananda a "Bastard" as he did not have Krishna Bhakti. Many Bhakta saints openly declare Gyan is useless and only Bhakti is the right way to Moksha....so we cant take each saints whole teachings as an absolute Truth...what they know is a part of Truth not the whole Truth. I agree on your point that planets infect the mind and we take wrong decisions. Planets are nothing but heavenly objects..and it is the cosmic energy which gives us the bad or good results...planets are only symbolic...a shorthand... a coded language of the Cosmos. Our vedic rishis de-cyphered this code of the cosmos and found that certain combination of planets creates an energy field, which can harm us or benefit us. I have seen many miracles of astrology, that even if whole world says it has no value... i will still believe in astrology. Yes there is a stage where a yogi goes out of the reach of Cosmic energies, and cant be affected by planetary positions...still he obeys the cosmic laws and puts himself under influence of stars for sake of respect for Mother Nature And in today's world, I do not see any saint, who has reached that stage... so we should overlook their babblings about other faiths. In fact, before advent of Supercomputers, Astrologers of India like BV Raman would give more accurate timing for eclipses etc, even though they didnt have any telescopes. Not just today- even all through history, very few have. If you leave Divine Beings like Krishna, Hanuman, as well as the Siddhas like Babaji, just handful of people reached that stage- Janak & Sri Aurobindo are the ones I can think of.
