Modern medicine needs wisdom of ayurveda: allopathy doctors

Mumbai, Feb. 4 (PTI): Allopathy doctors who are also trained in Ayurveda system of medicine here urged the Centre to make efforts to address the decade-old Supreme Court judgment "which seemingly though not intentionally upholds the water tight compartments of different pathies".

"This will help remove the psychological barrier amongst the modern practitioners, who sincerely want to use Ayurvedic medicines for the benefit of their patients," according to the recommendations made by the doctors at the day-long seminar on `Tadvidya Sambhasha Ayurveda' yesterday.

Modern medicine needs the science and wisdom of Ayurveda for the better health care in future of this country and also whole of the globe, they said .

Every student and practitioner of modern medicine has same inheritance right to Ayurveda as that of an Ayurvedic qualified person, said the participants including Dr R D Lele, eminent physician and head of nuclear medicine, Lilawati Hospital; Dr Ashok B Vaidya, eminent clinical pharmacologist and leading researcher in Ayurveda and head of SPARC and Dr Sadhaa Desai, an eminent Gynecologist and former president of FOGSI.

"Modern medicine students should get reasonable exposure to Ayurveda in line with recent recommendation of Medical Council of India. Every effort should be made to facilitate modern medical students to know and learn the philosophy and practice of Ayurveda," the experts said in their recommendations which has been forwarded to Union Health Ministry for considerations.
