Guest guest
Dear Dr. Sharma, Your post has reminded me of a question I have had about Ayurveda and about Chinese medicine also for some time now: how do these forms of medicine evolve over the centuries? I am certain that all the respected vaidyas throughout the years did not say that "ayurveda is a closed system, therefore there can be no changes," no? If that were so, the materia medica would not have expanded at all after the initial invention of the system and the other treatments would not exist either. The whole system of Ayurveda could not have been invented by one person, no matter how brilliant, or at one time either. So what is the system for evolution of treatments and diagnoses? Has anyone written on that subject? I am a folklorist, not a medical person and the whole subject of Ayurveda is fascinating to me. Besides, from my own experience, I know the cures work. For example, Mr. Garry in Reno sends my Mahanarayan oil packaged in plastic, yet I am certain this is not how the original vaidyas would have packaged it. Yet the lovely oil works very well and I am just as satisfied with it as the first patient to use it, I am sure. Very curious, Darla On 2/2/07, drdevgun <drdevgun > wrote: <snip> > Perhaps it is our reluctance to adopt and adapt that has made us lag > behind in the race and being labelled as "Alternative System of Medicine". > In modern world and in order to make this the "Preferred system of > Medicine", we have to undergo the process of change, adopting and adapting > as well.
