Guest guest
Namaste Anand, an abhishekam is a puja involving the bathing of a sacred murti, ShivLinga or idol, with pure substances like milk or honey, yoghurt, ghee, coconut water, etc. The abhishekam is accompanied by the chanting of specific mantras. These ablutions symbolize spiritual purification, and each offering represents fulfillment at all levels. The substances that are poured over the murti become charged with divine energy. Generally, abhishekam uses milk, yoghurt, ghee, coconut water, sugar cane juice, vibhuti, Gangajal, fruits, sandal paste, sugar and honey. Some people may prefer to also use kum kum and rose water. Please see next message about Shiva Puja which is one of the full traditional methods. Alternatively, you can ask a priest to perform the abhishekam for yourself and family.
