as it is said in the ashtanga hrdaya:

vikaara naamaa kushalo na jihreeyaat kadaa cha na

na hi sarva vikaaraanaam naamato sti dhruvaa sthitih

"the physician need never feel ashamed for not knowing the name of a disease for there is

ama = autoimmunity

clearly particles of undigested food do not course through the bloodstream - instead, the

immune system is _induced_ by ama, as its long shadow cast in the body

It would seem that ama would be a better explanation for much autoimmunity

than I have read about in some of the medical journals. At least what you

are all saying about ama seems to explain more of the autoimmune disorders

at once than having a lot of different causes. For example, I have RA,

asthma, diabetes, psoriasis, heart disease, and various allergies, and all

these have been linked with autoimmunity in different ways. I can also see

how they could fit what is said about ama and that explanation seems to hang

together better than thinking that it is just a coincidence that I have all

these autoimmune conditions. The difference in systems, it seems to me, is

that Ayurveda doesn't seem to accept that if a person has various conditions

that they are all random occurrences.
