Guest guest
Dear Darla, Many thanks for your inputs. Many Ayurvedists round the world are being consider Amavata as Rheumatoid arthritis straightly. Despite their considerations, I strongly deny this. Because, I claim the conflict between Amavata and Rheumatoid arthritis. The conflict is, every established case of rheumatoid arthritis should not consider as Amavata. Because, the clinical picture of Rheumatoid arthritis of an individual (Diagnosed by means of allopathic methods like RA factor, ESR, etc) would only fit in to any one of the different slots of Amavata.Often may not fit into any slot too. So, that means Rheumatoid arthritis is not straightly Amavata. Similarly Amavata would not be always Rheumatoid arthritis. It was clearly emphasized in Ayurveda that "AMA VATE NATO SNEHAM" means, no oil (Of course all snehas) to be used in Amavata. Because, properties (Gunas) like Snigdha, Guru is similar in between Sneha dravyas (Like oils, ghee, fat, marrow) and AMA. Due to which, the condition aggravates (especially pain and swelling) rather than relieving. The reason can be well explained by means of one of the top most and important fundamental principle of Ayurveda. The principle is SAMANYA VISHESHA SIDHANTA --"SARVADA SARVA BHAVANAAM SAMAANYAM VRUDHI KARANAM HRAASA HETUR VISHESHASCHA".). The one and only exception is Eranda taila (Castor oil. that too un refined), which is highly indicated, and much appreciated, depending on the condition of the disease only. Means castor oil to be used only after assessing when and on which condition of Amavata. Other oils like Mahanarayan taila are contraindicated. Consider if any oil works on pain associated with swelling consider, that is not Amavata undoubtedly. I have rheumatoid arthritis also and if it is any consolation, sometimes the condition will go into remission on its own for a while. I have found that the Maha Naryana oil is good and also castor oil and if nothing else works, ice on the worst joints.
