Real Life Inspiration

Here is a little real life inspiration that happened last week. I participated in a count of homeless people for the county in which I live. My homeless guide was a man who received Amma's darshan last November, after wanting to meet Her for 5 years. It was quite an education, as he revealed possible sleeping spots. He found one person in a dumpster, which was heart breaking. Another man was sleeping in morning air so cold it hurt my fingers, near a river, in what appeared to be a thin sleeping bag.

Anyway, far into the count, something went wrong with my car. We drove back & a man whose spent much time homeless, diagnosed the problem & offered to fix it. It was a difficult job, & to pry something loose, at one point he said, "I need a crow bar!" He walked about 30-40 feet in a dirt parking lot, & there was a crow bar! He said he would've noticed it if it had been there before. Afterwards we shared that we had both been praying during the repair, which was giving him lots of problems.

Anyway, today I called a dealer for a quote on parts & labor, & learned it would've cost about $500. This man knows I don't earn much, & insisted that I pay it forward, rather than give anything to him. Now I see first hand why Amma was impressed with the homeless persons who met Her & although poor wanted to give Her a fruit or flower. She said that the poor give more than others. I've been blessed with some amazing generosity, & will look upon homeless persons with a renewed respect. As a Christian, this man sees that our beliefs are essentially the same, so I hope he's blessed with Amma's darshan this June.
