Guest guest
Hi, according to Ayurveda, the origin of Manovaha Srotas (problems to do with the Mind) like depression, originate in the heart and nerve tissue. Depressive ailments are caused by overwork, stress, excessive worry, fright, fear, anxiety, anger or grief. Physical causes are head injuries, insomnia, drug-taking or derangement of the senses. Impairment symptoms are dizziness, distress, palpitations, emotional excesses, extreme mood swings or mental disorders. Due to the mind's connection with Vata, many Ayurvedic treatments may aim at reducing high Vata and calming resultant agitation and instability. An Ayuvedic physician is best consulted if you wish to find out more. If your relative is under the care of a Western specialist (psychiatrist) who may have prescribed such medicines as Lithium, etc, for Bipolar Disorder, its important that your relative insists on blood tests every 1 or 2 months to check the level of medications in the system - this is for the first couple of months. Once the medicines are stabilized and your relative is feeling better, the blood test can stop. Next, other blood tests are also important, such as to measure the level of vitamins in the system. Example, some people lack vitamin B, D, Folate, etc. (essentials in assisting with the mind and body) if he/she is long used to an unbalanced diet that did not contain nutrients for the mind. And blood tests for the liver and other organs to make sure allopathic drugs are breaking down and eliminated properly from the body. In any case, a competent psychiatrist will definitely order these blood tests as the patient progresses along. He will also monitor the patient's progress in therapy or sometimes provide guidance about coping mechanisms that the patient has to put into practice, one step at a time. A psychiatrist without experience may not think about these factors. Please note that forms and levels of depression vary from person to person as each is individual with different symptoms and underlying conditions that trigger depression. Only doctors or Ayurvedic Physicians specializing in this field can make proper diagnosis.
