H S Toor, a doctor in government hospital where the post-mortem of two of the animals was conducted, said that prima facie the cause of the death appeared to be consumption of some poisonous substance mixed in fodder. Keeping in view the sensitivity of the issue, Rampura Phool tehsildar Subhash Chander has been assigned to probe the death of the animals. Prithi Chand Sarsvati, head of a gaushala in the town, said that he was informed by a truck operator that three cows and three calves were lying on Phool road. He immediately reached the spot with two doctors and found some other cows and oxen lying dead there. In a similar incident at Sema village, near Bhucho Mandi town of Bathinda district on Saturday, about two dozen cows and oxen were treated by the doctors of animal husbandry department after they fell unconscious by eating some poisonous substance. While the police have not pinpointed any person for killing the animals, a police official said that the killing could be a handiwork of some farmers who were harassed due to the stray animals problem. The number of stray animals, particularly cows and oxen, is increasing at an alarming rate in the area with farmers sitting on guard during nights to prevent the animals to graze on their crops. A number of incidents of farmers of two villages clashing over stray animals have been reported. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/Band_of_foreign_yogis_has_universal _appeal/articleshow/1489205.cms
