Guest guest
This is a story that my grandfather told me a long time ago. I don't remember it clearly, and so the details are a little sketchy, but the power of Sani is very evident in this story. I have embellished this story slightly, and if you know the original version, please forgive me my additions! :-) Today (20 Jan 2007) is Saturday, which is ruled by Sani. The star of the day is Sravana, which is ruled by Chandra. This story concerns both the mind and the concept of renunciation and pain, and so I thought that it would be most appropriate to share it with all of you, especially since Sani today aspects Chandra and additionally, there is also a Parivartana Yoga between Sani and Chandra. * * * Once upon a time, there was a very old Head Priest at a temple. He had given up all desires a long time ago, and the only thing he wanted to do was serve the Lord. This Head Priest was supposed to start his third round of Sani's seven-and-a-half years period in the near future. He was worried and prayed to Sani thus: "I have renounced all desires, except the desire to serve the Lord. When I went through the earlier two rounds of my seven-and-a-half year periods, I didn't complain. However, now, I'm old and weak, and I pray that you should spare me. I implore you because I'm already unable to serve Him because of my old age. If you trouble me now, I might be forced to stop worshipping Him in the temple, and this will pain me greatly." Sani then appeared in the Head Priest's dream and said: "Great sage! I trouble those whose minds are gripped by their own ego. You, on the other hand, have a pure heart. You think of nothing other than the Lord. Since you have understood the concept of Vairagya, and seek nothing other than Moksha, I do not wish to trouble you. Still, I must, because it is my nature. However, I shall not trouble you for seven-and-a-half years. Instead, I shall only trouble you for seven-and-a-half minutes. This period will start the moment I step into the 12th house from your Chandra Lagna." The Head Priest was immensely pleased. After all, what could happen in just seven-and-a-half minutes? Sani, the giver of harsh lessons, decided to teach him exactly what would happen. A few months later, Sani, on one fateful day, entered the Head Priest's 12th house as seen from his Chandra Lagna. The next day, the manager of the temple opened the door leading to the inner sanctum sanctorum of the temple and got a rude shock--a gold vessel, studded with rare gems, was missing. This vessel was used to offer worship to the Lord. Since only a few priests could enter the inner room in which the Vigraha of the Lord was present, the manager couldn't go inside. He therefore went to the priest's house and reported the matter to him. "A gold vessel is missing from the sanctum sanctorum. You were the last person to leave the sanctum sanctorum yesterday night. Therefore, the suspicion of the theft falls squarely upon your shoulders," said the manager. The Head Priest was so shocked that he just sat down in a daze. He had served the Lord unflinchingly for several decades, and was praised by all for his knowledge, discipline, humility, and devotion to the Lord. Now, here he was, accused of theft! One of the junior priests, seeing the state of his Head Priest, told the manager: "Let's not jump to conclusions. Let me enter the sanctum sanctorum of the Lord and ascertain the true facts for myself." He came back a short while later, full of joy. "There is no problem," he said, "yesterday night, apparently, when the door was locked, the vessel, falling from the table on which it had been placed, had rolled away and was lying behind the Vigraha of the Lord. The Head Priest is innocent!" The manager at once fell at the feet of the Head Priest and said, "Great sage! Please forgive me! I accused you unjustly!" The Head Priest, needless to say, forgave the man. He also mentally noted that, from the moment the manager had come to accuse him of theft to the moment his junior priest came with the message of his innocence, exactly 450 seconds--or seven-and-a-half minutes--had passed. That night, Sani manifested in front of the Head Priest, who at once fell at the feet of the one who can also be called Swati Ucchan because he, Sani, is exalted in the star of Swati. "Great one!" said the Head Priest, "You have kept your word! For seven and a half minutes, when I was accused of theft, I was humbled and humiliated. But, the moment that period passed, my status was restored, nay, elevated by your kind glances!" Sani smiled and said, "Knowing your piety, I could not hurt you. Still, while you are sinless, you still had some ego because of the praise you had received in the past because of your knowledge, discipline, humility, and devotion. These things would have ultimately prevented you from attaining Moksha, which is just around the corner. Therefore, I decided to humble you momentarily, so that there are no obstacles between you and final liberation." The next day, the Head Priest narrated this incident to his junior priests and said, "traditional Jyotish texts refer to Sani as an obstructor, but I have now realized that Sani is not the obstructor. It is the world, and the desires it offers that obstruct us. Sani, the Vairagya Karaka, is, like Ketu, a liberator, because he obstructs our worldly desires, which prevent us from getting Moksha." The next day, the manager of the temple, who had spent a sleepless night, harried by pangs of guilt and shame because he had insulted the Head Priest and falsely accused him of theft, once again fell at the Head Priest's feet and begged his pardon. "Forgive me," he pleaded, "you must have felt most insulted by what happened." The Head Priest gave him a benevolent smile. "On the contrary," he said, "I felt purified." * * * ~~~~~~~~~ Balaji Narasimhan Author & Editor http://www.balaji.ind.in/ ~~~~~~~~~ Don't pick lemons. Guest guest
Dear Narsimhan ji, This is the very true face of saturn....as the sun gives ego and proud and so Saturn is called to be its opposite planet which give us the purity in the inner sense. Saturn makes one more pure than any other planet. Just a light is needed to know saturn and to pray this beautiful planet. Saturn in itself is called as the most shining planet in Astronomy just it is covered with gaseous evironment so it is termed black..but it has more shining surface. I am currently going throught Saturn Dasha and i had not observed the effects of other Mahadasha but i can say saturn is the best of all planet in spiritual world. Thanks for sharing such a beautiful story about saturn. Guest guest
Dear Balaji, A good story with revelations for those who wish to understand the true nature of Shani Maharaj. And indeed a tribute by Your good self to The Lord Saturn on His day today. I also wish to remind those who forget, that the 10th house of Karma,Profession, work, business is represented by Saturn itself in the Natural Horoscope, and so is the 11th of gains. The Ascendant Lord of the Natural Horoscope or Kala Purusha,Mars, which also signifies courage, gets exalted in this same sign of Saturn in the 10th which is Capricorn. Which confirms that without the consent and blessings of Shani no one can either continue working or making any gains in life. THis planet is so important and has to be revered and looked upto, rather than misunderstood. Best wishes, Bhaskar. jyotish-vidya, Balaji Narasimhan <sherlockbalaji wrote: > > This is a story that my grandfather told me a long > time ago. Guest guest
*** Chann ji, ///I am borne on 10th Feb 1975 10:47 AM Saturday Sravana Nakshtra 2nd paada. present MD-Guru AD-Guru/// Please post FULL data - date, time, and place of birth. *** Tarun ji, ///I am currently going throught Saturn Dasha and i had not observed the effects of other Mahadasha but i can say saturn is the best of all planet in spiritual world./// Yes! Along with Ketu, Sani is the greatest of grahas from a spiritual point of view. I hope that you have read "The Greatness of Saturn," which deals wonderfully with Sani. I still remember buying it in November 2005, on the day when I got an appointment letter - I was running Sani's PD then! I'm still in the same job--as people say, what Sani gives lasts a long time! *** Bhaskar ji, ///I also wish to remind those who forget, that the 10th house of Karma,Profession, work, business is represented by Saturn itself in the Natural Horoscope, and so is the 11th of gains./// It is indeed ironic that the 11th house Kumba, which represents gains, falls in Sani's Moolatrikona. This, the house of mystics, is most dear to Sani. While Guru rules Meena, the natural 12th, we must remember that Guru gets ucchatva in Sani's Nakshatra Pushya. According to the Brihat Jataka <http://www.jyotishvidya.com/books.htm> Chapter 18, Stanza 13, "Jupiter in Kumbha or Aquarius will produce the results ascribed to him in Cancer." So, both the Nakshatra of Sani and the Moolatrikona of Sani are important to Guru--this is perhaps natural, because the religion of Guru leads to the Vairagya of Sani, ultimately culminating in the Moksha of Ketu! ~~~~~~~~~ Balaji Narasimhan Author & Editor http://www.balaji.ind.in/ ~~~~~~~~~ Get your own web address. Guest guest
Dear Narasimhan ji, Yes saturn and ketu gives a spiritual experience for a person but as per classics it is also considered as Pitra Dosha. I didnt observed or has seen practically what Saturn-Ketu do but in my view as both are moksha karak planet so they give teachings as a strict teacher with a stick in hand. one discussion is also going on in Srijagannath Forum abt saturn and ketu. I am currently reading a book on Saturn - Friend of Mankind by Shri L R Chowdhary. I hope that book will guide me and will give me a clue to explore Saturn. Please enlighten the limited information available on Saturn , and share your knowledge with us.
