Guest guest
Aum Amriteswaryai Namaha, Trying to understand all the details of Scriptural stories( including the Vedas ) can be difficult and frustrating, I found. Even though the stoies contain beautiful examples. This seems to be a universal problem with the "written word." Perhaps, Amma's suggestion "Extract the essence, and discard the rest." is appropriate here? Supposedly, Thomas Jefferson extracted from the bible only those things which made spiritual sense/ resonated with him; and discarded the rest. There are many stories in the scriptures( including Vedas ) that I just ignore because they don't make sense to me. All of us are very, very fortunate to be living at this time when Amma, THE LIVING SCRIPTURE IS HERE! But even with Amma's Words, we need to go deeper and deeper into the inner stillness, to understand; or perhaps to go "beyond trying to understand." In any case, at least we can ask Amma some questions, sometimes. this is my 2cents. Guest guest
The beauty of Amma is such that She does initiate women to perform pujas ect... however I do not think the women in Ashram during their cycle do the puja . Mata Amritananda's Puja book explains it quite nicely not demeaning the feminine aspect " Women during menses should not do puja . There is a wheel of subtle nerves which collects the impurities of the body which are then discharged during menses;it is a natural cleansing process which only women have. Women , therefore go through a regular process of purification which can make it easier for them to overcome Maya , at least on the physical plane. " Sometimes it is even recommended that women should do during this time silent prayer ( not using once mala ) . All these basic rules are not designed to suppress woman from worshiping but rather further Her spiritual progress. I am not denying the fact that patriarchy seemed to take charge , however at the same time there needs to be balance and understanding of the roles each gender represents. namaste , joanna > > Aum Amriteswaryai Namaha, > > Trying to understand all the details of Scriptural stories( including > the Vedas ) can be difficult and frustrating, I found.
