TEXT 11

sri-bhagavan uvaca

asocyan anvasocas tvam

prajna-vadams ca bhasase

gatasun agatasums ca

nanusocanti panditah

TRANSLATION

bump.gifThe Blessed Lord said: While speaking learned words, you are mourning for what is not worthy of grief. Those who are wise lament neither for the living nor the dead.

PURPORT

bump.gifThe Lord at once took the position of the teacher and chastised the student, calling him, indirectly, a fool. The Lord said, "You are talking like a learned man, but you do not know that one who is learned--one who knows what is body and what is soul--does not lament for any stage of the body, neither in the living nor in the dead condition." ...

Just like Arjuna was called a fool by Lord Sri Krsna in the Bhagavad-Gita, "While speaking learned words..." Is it a wee bit painful to hear such sharp words from the Guru?:crying2: :crying2: :crying2: How is Guru helping us by such verbal chastisemet?:smash: :smash: :smash: :smash: :smash: :smash: :smash: :smash: :smash: :smash: :smash: :smash: :smash: :smash:

Hare Krishna

All glories to srila prabhupad

I think the Guru and disciple in this regard is Lord Krishna and Arjuna. they are not ordinary persons. Lord Krishna is the supreme person and arjuna is Lord krishna boyhood friend. and Arjuna was also a pure devotee.Arjuna was with good knowledge but for the benefit of all the future generations he is questioning Lord Krishna. This example is for Lord Krishna and Arjuna.but otherwise its really painfull because we are not pure devotee as Arjuna to accept and also to tolerate. Caring words shall be applied on this regard. If this is not followed then words will effect subtly. grossly is ok. but when we are effected subtly then it's really painful. we cannot overcome that pain.and due to that pain we will loose the faith.

I have heard that sadhu means "one who cuts". Such a sadhu can be compared to the expert surgeon who has the job of cutting away the tumor from the healthy flesh in order to save the patient. He has no intention of harming the patient but surgery is painful especially in recovery.

We must understand this thing in the beginning or as Nitai said the chastisment may cause us to lose faith. If we become more serious in a relationship with such a sadhu and draw closer he will recepricate by making cuts to remove the ahankara or the false conceptions of the self along with words of encouragment. It's his duty much like it was the duty of Nanda Maharaja to correct child Krsna God or not.

If one can appreciate what is happening as it is happening his growth in Krsna consciousness can be very swift.

The majority of us dislike this cutting of the sadhu so we remain in an outer circle where it is more flower garlands and prasadam lollipops. That's ok for now as we all make progress even there.

If you have a Guru you can have conversations with then you can get a whole lot more feedback from him about how you can manage your wayward mind.

Shastra can help us a lot but if someone is misinterpreting the shastra and listening to nobody else but the books then they may need to take another birth before they un-learn the wrong ideas that are in their mind. Someone caught in that situation may have a very long journey in front of them, as they follow the path to their Home Sweet Home.

Chastizement by guru is described as the greatest fortune. This actually means that the reciprocation is on a very high level.

Often, the guru may seem very nice to a beginner, then that person will find out he was just acting like a ferocious beast to the other, more advanced disciples. This never means that he is more pleased with the one he was soft with, rather reciprocates to the level that one can take. Beginners cant take such chastizement without being discouraged, thus gurudeva may never be so rough with him, but the more you take on, the more responsibility one is HELD to.

Perhaps that's what all the corrections are for?

When does equality make a presence?
