Guest guest
In the Garuda Purana, the travails of the soul as it undergoes the lifecycle of birth and rebirth in its quest for salvation or self realization or moksha....are detailed in this. Being a serious topic, hence, it is felt by "some" that women who are generally emotionally inclined are susceptible to this and hence, they are advised to keep away !! However, the reality is that today the women have displayed more acumen than men and the "worldly dictum" is no longer valid and they are encouraged to read and understand the Garuda Purana. In Physical sense- It is often seen that there is a MAN in Woman, similarly there is WOMAN in every MAN i.e. there are certain issues, specific to a individual / human character, to which every man becomes emotional like Woman, similarly Woman show their Boldness to certain issues. They are many living notal crusaders- Ms Medha Patkar who is fighting for the cause of "right to proper rehalbilitation" or "Mother Teresa" during her lifetime - in both such cases they have displayed tremendous strength of soul. Moreover, it is seen from chronicles of history, the "worldly recommendation" to women to keep away from Garuda Purana, is more to do with the effect of such serious literature, on to the "embroyo being carried in womb". Hence, carrying or pregnant women are generally kept away from the karmic death rites. Here arises the great indian custom to "sending back" the girl to her parents once, she is confirmed to be pregnant or carrying child, for the girl is supposed to be "free & mentally at ease" at her parents place !!! See the meta-physics, translated into a custom. Many of us only remember the custom, forgetting the great meta-physics working behind. The entire set of 18 puranas are available from Gita Press in HINDI only for Rs. 2,000 odd rupees. They are available at every railway station or can be sourced directly from Patna. It is again the loopsided mentality of some to say - NOT to keep copy of Mahabarat or read it. It has no basis. Infact it is the most comphrensive document to be read in terms of finding answers to daily issues of mental conflict between duties & dharma. Example -1 :- A child born in butcher family, should he continue the family business or runaway from it ??!! Example 2 : It is well known that there are certain organizations in India or elsewhere, who have grown rich in short durations of time through questionable means of conduct & methods employed - attract talent through "sheer money packages" they offer......when it is known ( through scriptures or nature's laws ) that such organizations DO NOT sustain for long, unlike the organizations who adhere to dharma at their risk & peril !! The greatness of Hindu religion lies in its detailed documentation of its understanding of nature - in general the CREATION itself, such a rich set of literature not seen anywhere in the world, ( even today ), where every scripture has grammar, poetry, prose, quiz, FAQ ( Yaksha Prasna, Kathopanishad ), subject, context....all so well detailed that we often learn through the special courses conducted nowadays in the modern days under the - "Communication Skills English / Effective speaking"....etc.. The vedas are for the research oriented scholars. Upanishads for the M.Phil & M.Techs, Bramha Sutras & Puranas for the Graduates and Post Graduates, Smritis for the Undergraduates. { Note - This classification is a broad one just intended to simplify the understanding of the general members } Inshort, there is well defined hierarchy of documents each translating or addressing to different mindsets. An ordinary person knowledge of Purana is limited to Ramayana & to an extent Mahabharat and stops here !! The puranas are retold/presented in a "Story telling" manner that is akin to what we often advice our children to watch in Discovery or National Geograhic or Cartoon Network, where the complexity of the subject is demystified or presented in simplistic terms for children or any NON-IT or NON-Technical manner , making it easy to comprehend. Yet, the Puranas only echo the principles laid in the Vedas, Upanishads...etc... Of all the 108 Upanishads, Kathopanishad is widely read and understood, for being very explicit, replete with answers. It is the conversation transpired between Young Nacheketa & Lord of Death i.e. Lord Yama. Where one can see the "modern day job interview" process defined !!! It also shows shades of "inter rivalry or politics" between the demi-gods, as they were allotted the respective ( coveted) portfolios of Lord of Heaven - Indra, Lord of Vayu, ......, however, according to nature's laws the MOST MERITORIOUS post is Lord of Death.....was given to Lord Yamraj, the brother of our SATURN !! And this Saturn loves astros for precribing remedies for Sade-Sati - making him the most worshipped demi-god !!!!???!!!! :) In puranas we also see Doctors - Ashwini Kumars !!, Quiz masters - Yaksha, Communication / Instant Messenger - Lord Vayu, Quality Assurance / Testing / Tester - Lord Agni, you name the modern roles, you have it in Puranas a corresponding personality or role defined characters in Puranas. It is interesting to note, that famous ( !!) His Excellency Ravan defeated the 9 astro planets including our Lord Agni, however, whenever Ravan tried to "approach" Sati-Sita, the same Lord Agni was so "fiercefull" that His Excellency Ravan had to retreat fearing retribution !!!! Guest guest
Dear SreeRamji, That was a wonderful piece written by Your goodself. My comments in short. //In the Garuda Purana, the travails of the soul as it undergoes the lifecycle of birth and rebirth in its quest for salvation or self realization or moksha....are detailed in this. Being a serious topic, hence, it is felt by "some" that women who are generally emotionally inclined are susceptible to this and hence, they are advised to keep away !!// Yes that was the case till so many ages behind us. //However, the reality is that today the women have displayed more acumen than men and the "worldly dictum" is no longer valid and they are encouraged to read and understand the Garuda Purana. In Physical sense- It is often seen that there is a MAN in Woman, similarly there is WOMAN in every MAN i.e. there are certain issues, specific to a individual / human character, to which every man becomes emotional like Woman, similarly Woman show their Boldness to certain issues. // //Moreover, it is seen from chronicles of history, the "worldly recommendation" to women to keep away from Garuda Purana, is more to do with the effect of such serious literature, on to the "embroyo being carried in womb". Many of us only remember the custom, forgetting the great meta-physics working behind.// Very true. In fact the pregnant women in our culture are advised to keep photo of Lord Krishna in Bala-Gopala rupa (Image as child) and read stories of Krishna etc. so that the child in womb ensures a good birth. In fact I know a south Indian family, where a pregnant lady kept a photo of Lord Krishna with one hand missing in her room during her pregnancy and even after repeated warnings from her father in law to remove that photo from her room and keep a full whole photo of Lord Krishna in Goapala rupa, she did not heed to his warnings and doo meant advise, and the result was that the son born to her was without one hand, though that boy is now 18 years old, and picked up from IIT by a good multinational company for his excellent academic performance for a placement abroad at a very gigantic pay scale, yet he of course remains without one hand. Now this may be a co-incidence but with the previous warnings given, this will be a blot on the minds and heart of both the parents of the boyand the parents in law of that lady, till they live. //The entire set of 18 puranas are available from Gita Press in HINDI only for Rs. 2,000 odd rupees. They are available at every railway station or can be sourced directly from Patna.// These Gita press sevabhavis are really great people. //It is again the loopsided mentality of some to say - NOT to keep copy of Mahabarat or read it. And this Saturn loves astros for precribing remedies for Sade-Sati - making him the most worshipped demi-god !!!!???!!!! :):)// That is why I feel happy to advise such remedies to natives coming to me for help, because when I ask them to appease the planets, indirectly I am appeasing them myself to get their Grace upon me and reduce my own karmic debts. The atsrolger is really lucky in this profession as he can turn many people religious through his advise, firstly by suggestion as remedial measures, secondly it becomes second nature for the ntive to continue by force of habit, and thridly the last stage comes when the native enjoys doing these remedies on his own without any instructions needed and keeps on continuing for he feels at peace. This power which the astrologer has, no other profession has given to their workers. //In puranas we also see Doctors - Ashwini Kumars !!, Quiz masters - Yaksha, Communication / Instant Messenger - Lord Vayu, Quality Assurance / Testing / Tester - Lord Agni, you name the modern roles, you have it in Puranas a corresponding personality or role defined characters in Puranas. Do you read the logics between the two events ??!!// Agni has so many Forms. Lord Krishna says in one shloka in the Bhagavad Gita that "I am the fire in the stomache which makes the food digest and keeps one alive in this body." Agni can be in the form of pious action as Agni of Havans and Yagnas. Agni can be destructive as that of anger of Draupadi which culminated in MahaBharata. Agni can be again used for destruction of opposite person as in case of Ravana used by Ma Sita. Agni can again be soothing as in case of Lord Hanumanji when his tail was burnt but he did not feel even a pang of fire, though all the Lanka and its citizens were scorched by this Fire. Agni can also be used as compassion when a family member instigates us but we channelise it to the territory of compassion and become for a moment Jesus like, all forgiving and all loving.. Sir, Your piece as mentioned, was really beautiful to read. Best wishes, Bhaskar. , "sreeram srinivas" <sreeram64 wrote: > > In the Garuda Purana, the travails of the soul as it undergoes the > lifecycle of birth and rebirth in its quest for salvation or self > realization or moksha....are detailed in this.
