Guest guest
dear friend your query relates to what happens to the soul after death and how it departs. here below i try to answer the course of a soul after death. Once a person passes away, the death is only to the body having nava randhras which decays and when burned in the pyre, only ash remains and even that ash is immersed in the rivers and at the end NOTHING remains out of the body. The soul or atman which is the invisible life force of all sentient beings departs the body. If the native have desires left, he or she will have rebirth in such creatures related to these desires. Very few persons who have become desireless, they will not have rebirth and go to other lokas based on their merits. There are various slokas in the 8th chapter of gita which explain the course of atma after death. It says that thinking of whatever object at the time of death a person leaves the body, he attains that very object being constantly absorbed in its thought. Who remembers god alone at the time of death, attains him (the god) only. Those who attain the god will have no more birth cycles. The two routes (gatis) that the soul undertakes are mentioned in the gita as uttarayanam and dakshinayanam and likens them to having rebirth and salvation. If you read the entire eighth chapter of gita, most of your doubts will be clarified. In one verse in yajurveda also, it is mentioned that the soul takes one of these two routes which is between the devaloka (svargaloka) and the bhuloka. In shiva purana, uma samhita, 19th chapter, sanatkumara describes the bhuloka as the place to the extent to which the rays of the sun and the moon shine and illuminate. The bhuvarloka and svargaloka are above the earth and beneath the pole star. In the bhuvarloka sages of great siddhis stay in the form of gods. In the svarga loka gods, adityas, marutas, vasus, twin asvinis, visvedevas, rudras, sadhyas, nagas, khagas etc. stay. Above these bhuvarloka and svargalokas are located the planets sun, moon, mercury, venus, mars, Jupiter and Saturn. Above them is the sapta rishi mandalam and then the dhruva (pole star). A crore yojanas above the pole star is the maharloka where the seven sons of brahma are stationed viz. sanaka, sananda, sanatana, kapila, asuri, vodhu and pancasikha. Then janaloka, tapoloka and satya loka are located. Satyaloka is also known as brahmaloka where pureminded perfectly wise bachelors engaged in truthful virtues stay and such men from earth also stay there. In sankalpam of all poojas, these seven lokas are mentioned succinctly while reciting bhu, bhuva, sva, maha, jana, tapa, satya. Hope this gives some understanding of various lokas ahead earth and how and where a native's soul departs after death.
