Guest guest
This is a question that has bothered me for a long time, & I havent found any satisfactory answer. Basically, many of our texts say Kaliyug lasts 432,000 years. But the famous Yogi Yogananda in his Autobiography of a Yogi claims that it is only 1200 years, & that it has finished. This is based on his Gurus book Holy Science. Sri Yukteshwar says that when the last Kaliyug started(after Mahabharat war) peoples mind got corrupted, & all the good pundits left for sanyaas with the Pandavs. Only incompetent ones were left. They didnt update the almanac, & there was some confusion. Anyway the final result was that Kaliyug, which texts say lasts 1200 years, was thought to meant 1200 years of Gods. Since 1 day of Gods=1 year for us, the huge figure of 430,000 came up. But Sri Yukteshwar says it is only 1200 human years, so Kaliyug has ended & Treta Yuga started. Many astrologers(even famous ones like B V Raman) disgree with this, as whole of astrology is based on old view....... .........till you remember that Sri Yukteshwar himself was a master astrologer, prophesising his chelas sickness almost to the day. In fact, Sri Yukteshwar explains his theory keeping Astrology & Astronomy in mind. So who is right? 1000's of Pundits, astrologers, gyanis cant be wrong? But on the other hand, Sri Yukteshwar was clearly a highly advanced soul, who was a Jeevan mukta. Yogananda was a master Yogi, yet he was nothing compared to his Guru. So how do we decide which is the correct date for Kaliyug-as the 2 systems are seemingly contradictory to each other?
