ACCORDING TO VAGHBATA THE PRAKOPA STAGE OF VAT IS IN VARSHA.BUT WHY CANT IT

BE IN HEMANTA,

WHERE ALL THE CHARACTERS OF THE PRAKOPA OF VATA IS PRESENT.

Please explain this..

in winter people generally eat/are attracted to heavier food, because

of the cold and the resultant increase in agni

this combination usually pacifies vata - if foods are eaten however

that increase vata during this time, vata will undergo chaya or kopa

 

in very cold and dry winters however, vata undergoes chaya

for e.g. when i practiced in calgary, which is basically a desert,

ALL my patients complained of dry skin in winter

 

here in comparatively temperate vancouver, people only get the

dryness when a cold front comes from the north, when the normally

cloudy skies clear and the humidity levels drop

 

and in most of india, where the humidity remains relatively high and

the cold is much less, vata won't undergo chaya as easily

and in tropical places like kerala or the caribbean, they don't

really have a proper winter anyway, and so the issue of hemanta

rtucharya is much less of an issue

 

vagbhata wrote for his time and place, not for the entire world, and

thus what he wrote about specifics cannot be applied universally

but if you practice an awareness of the gunas and listen to your body

you won't be confused
