hi p.subramani

it can be difficult to accurately determine one's prakriti

i usually have my patients fill out a form (see: http://

www.toddcaldecott.com/health_ar.html)

invariably the results of the form often do not match up with my

assessment however, not because the form is wrong per se, but because

many of us often have a distorted self-image

for example, the other day i had patient who filled out the form and

obtained a finding of a pitta prakriti - but upon my assessment i

found him to have a vata prakriti

in my experience the assessment of prakriti is not a reductionist

process, of isolating various features such as the nose, lips,

shoulders, feet and hair, etc etc - they all emanate from the same

person, and so it takes an ability to synthesize these various

factors into a unified whole

the best way to ascertain prakriti is think of the qualitative

differences that each dosha represents, instead of correlating

specific features with specific doshas

thus kapha is associated with qualities such as snigdha, shita, guru,

sthira, picchila etc; pitta with ushna, tikshna, snigdha, laghu, sara

etc; and vata with ruksha, shita, laghu, chala etc

understand this, and you understand tridosha and thus prakriti

best... todd

I like that your form says "weight at age 20." I have always gotten confused

about that since I was very thin when younger and very fat now but all the

tests always come up vata-pitta (and the pulse is always jumping and around

80-100 or so)_and those are also the aggravations I tend to get. It seems to

me that Vata is about extremes and changeability.
