Guest guest
"Anyone--man or woman--who has the courage to overcome the limitations of the mind, can attain the state of universal motherhood. The love of awakened motherhood is the love and compassion felt not only towards one's own children, but towards all people, animals and plants, rocks and rivers--a love extended to all of nature, all beings. ... This love...is Divine Love--and that is God." -- Amma "You can't get any closer to God or to that which we cannot understand than through loving. Creation puts in your hands the responsibility of nurturing.... You must [nurture] without turning [others] into your creation, which will only choke the magic of [their] being. Treat [others] with reverence.... Love flows abundantly and limitlessly, as long as we don't get in the way. Controlling the flow of love is like closing the gate and deciding how much the next in line is going to get. Letting love flow means keeping both ends open." -- Naomi Aldort, Raising Our Children, Raising Ourselves, pp. 83-84 In my own life recently, I ran into problems in my job. How to embody universal motherhood and see my employer as my child? I'm learning to tune into what my boss' behavior is saying about her. Not that she is selfish and bad, but that she has needs and is seeking to meet them. In what way can I contribute to the meeting of her needs, while at the same time acting with self-respect? I can exercise self-respect by respecting my own limits, making them clear, supporting myself to say, "I cannot meet the deadline in the timeframe allotted." In this way, I stand upright, rather than stooping to take a weight on my back that I am not able to carry alone. This is self-respect and respecting others at the same time. This is true freedom, interdependence that honors each individual's relationship to the Divine and to Life energy. The word "freedom" brought the following lyrics to mind: "Desperado... Your pain and your hunger, they're drivin' you home And freedom...that's just some people talkin' Your prison is walking through this world all alone .... Desperado, why don't you come to your senses? Come down from your fences, open the gate It may be rainin', but there's a rainbow above you You better let somebody love you, before it's too late." >From "Desperado" written by Don Henley
