Namaskar Mitra,

SC quashes UPA govt notification on Illegal Migrants December 2006. "In a major setback to the UPA government at the Centre, the Apex Court on Tuesday quashed its notification that put the onus of proving an llegal immigrant into the country solely on the complainant. An SC bench directed the Union government to constitute within four months sufficient number of tribunals to detect infiltration of thousands of Bangladeshis into Assam". Business Standard December 6, 2006. To read judgement http://www.esamskriti.com/html/essay_index.asp?cat=804&subcat=803&cname=imdt_act

In July 2005 the Apex Court had repealed the IMDT Act, 1983. To read judgment. http://esamskriti.com/html/inside.asp?cat=732&subcat=731&cname=imdt_suprem_court_jud_05.

Mitras food for thought:

1.. Why are the Tribunals referred to above limited to Assam? There are Bangladeshis all over the country, in Delhi itself where the SC is situated. When I wanted a maid back home in Mumbai a bindi wearing lady came home. She offered to work at 75% of a Maharashtrian maid's salary. When I spoke with her realized that she was a Bangladeshi. She had a Hindu name, looked Hindu but her Bengali gave her Bangladeshi nationality away.

2.. In Nerul Navi Mumbai my friend prefers to hire a Bangladeshi maid because she is better/cheaper. He knows he is supporting an illegal immigrant but his own comfort is more important.

3.. Bangladeshi workers read men work in Mumbai in large numbers esp. construction industry. Through undercutting and hard work they will over time replace the local community. It would result in a riot a few years from now.. The media will call it a communal riot I call it a riot by economically displaced people.

4.. During a visit to Delhi in November 2006 I was surprised that all my relatives had Bengali maids. According to my cousin they are Bangladeshis with Hindu names. Am sure police and politicians alike know where Bangladeshis live but!
