RBSC : questions about yantras

Namaste Amar, please scroll below,,,,,,, ,

Namaste,

I have a couple of Yantras and I am at a loss as to how to use them for maximum benefit. Can you please provide a brief 'How To' on Yantras. Here are some questions I have:

1. Which direction should Yantras be placed?

General recommendation is to place them in the north or north-west direction in a room, facing the south or south-east. This rule of thumb does not apply to Vaastu yantra which many say should be positioned in the south-west of the house to face north-east. Shree Yantra is supposed to be placed in the east, facing the west. Also heard that Lord Kuber Yantra should be in the north facing the south or in the east to face west.

Can a Yantra be placed on the altar with other Deities?

Yes, many families place yantras on altar with other deities.

2. Can Yantras be framed and hung on walls or should be left in the 'as-is' state (just the copper plate)?

For preservation, preferably they should be framed before placing on altars or hung on walls. Its fine to hang them on the wall in the puja room. Not advisable to leave them "as is" state.

3. Should Yantras be cleaned regularly? Or on festival days? If so what is the procedure?

Once yantras are framed, its not necessary to clean them regularly unless there is dust. On festival days when bathing or washing the deities before drying and dressing them, its good to also wipe the frames and glass of the yantras with a cotton cloth wet with gentle soapy water. Then rinse the cloth and wipe again. After this, if you have rosewater, pour some in a basin and use a clean cloth to wipe the yantras. There are many ways to cleaning yantras and this is one of the simple and practical methods in modern times..

4. How should one pray with Yantras? Chant any mantras? What is the process?

Traditionally those who prefer simple worship of a yantra can place a small oil lamp or ghee lamp in front of the yantra. Incense can be lit and mantras can be recited. For those not able to chant mantras, tapes of sacred chants relevant to the yantra can be played.

Any other information is also welcome.
