It is basically an agricultural area and the district has the most ancient temples and in the town of thanjavur u have the biggest temple known for its excellent archietecture constructed by then the chola king. It has a very big Library where ancient texts written on Palm leaves in the field of medicine, literature and astrology can be found. But these palm leaf text have been taken by the government to study and transform it to book format. U can even get lot of information about this temple town in the website. If u visit India u will be amazed to see all these ancient temples in southern India.
