Good example, Kumarji. However, alternative explanations too can be

given. On an almost cursory and quick look the following points

become obvious to me:

 

Mars the yogakaraka for karkata is debilitated in navamsha with

bhanga. Thus the break in service was self-imposed. I would hardly

call that an adversity that one would imagine should occur with all

the hoop-la around the scare of combustion!

 

I would be interested in knowing, if possible, if the decision to not

take up the offers was in part related to some family-reasons

(someone's health or someone else's career) or a

decision/preoccupation with an idea to start own business or other

independent venture such as writing a book, etc.?

 

Dashas, in my experience, often give the effect of their nakshatra

dispositor. This is also conceptualized in the KP system of jyotish.

Please note that both sun and mars are in the nakshatra of moon

(hasta) and moon has certain burdens in this case. It is in its sign

of debility in the fifth house and it is with saturn and ketu. There

is no bhanga for the neecha moon (unless you consider ketu as the

ruler of scorpio in this case due to it having more planets with it

than are with mars -- Chara principle) which also happens to be low

in pakshabala (moon is very sensitive to pakshabala as we all know).

 

Please note that moon is also lagnesha in this case and being with

the malefics in the fifth house, despite the aspect of jupiter could

have been responsible for a decision that the individual made (not

accepting offers to work) which some may consider a self-imposed

adversity because of reasons that would have to do with thoughts of

an independent venture or health reasons etc. Mercury bhukti (august

85 to august 86) brought about an end to the service (retirement).

Its placement in a marak sthan from the 10th, it being the dispositor

of gulika, and its dwirdwadash sambandha from dasha lord mars and the

fact that it represents the 6th (gnatikaraka) reduce its propensity

to do good.

 

I would not call this as a clean example where combustion alone would

explain the adversity as pointed out by you. But thanks for your

offering. Please do share any other examples of venus combust or

other planets combust which will give clear and unambiguous

association of combustion as being a negative phenomenon in natal

charts. I am very interested in this, for some years and looking

desperately for a clean and certain example.
