Guest guest
First night: The orientation began with a wonderful comedian doing a routine about all the funny subcultural idiosyncrasies of the Ashram and Amma devotees. Saving space in the hall. Looking for an Amma-minded mate and then leaving them to follow Amma. Etc. He closed telling us, Amma will be here in about thirty seconds, and She was. Some "Darshan: The Embrace" film-type thumping disco beat started, which was pretty fun/funky to sink into for the 27 seconds or so that it played. "eye" was near the back of the hall and could see the loving pada puja. The garland was a beautiful white, pink, and yellow mala. Amma hugged all the children and the whole family. They had offered the loveliest mauve-rose roses at Her feet. When She got about halfway through the room She let out a sweet exclamation, and the whole front of the hall sighed and "Ahhed" with Her, perhaps glancing for the first time that evening Her form. During Mother's talk last night, She emphasized the need for balance in life. The importance of values. The scriptures say: Dharma-Artha-Kama-Moksha... Right action, wealth, desire, and liberation. But too much in this world the values of righteousness and the desire for liberation have fallen away. What is left is wealth and desire. This is like trying to drive a car with the two front tires flat. The first bhajan was Varuvay Varuvay, then Sri Krishna Charanam. Then Mano Buddhya (sung in unison) and several others on the songsheet, including OMKARA swarupini unaru. English translation: "Awake O form of the Cosmic sound as a sweet mantra in my heart resonating to the chords of celestial vina in my soul. Like the gracefully dancing peacock in the grove of contented ecstasy, dance the dance of bliss in the prepared venue of my life. Like the flitting butterfly among gracefully swaying creepers and swishing bunches of flowers you dance sing in my soul." (I'm not sure if I remember this from visits to the MA Center earlier in the Fall, but the hangings in back of Amma's eat, at the front of Amrita Hall where the murtis of Devi and Krishna are, are sprinkled at the top with a flock of soaring gold & coloured metallic butterflies! The arathi was very sweet. Amma kept bursting into smiles. You could feel all the love in the room. Happy Thanksgiving!! OM Amriteswaryai Namah.
