Guest guest
Satish Why don't you make some predictions rather than keep criticizing that nobody has predicted this or that. Like Mr Inder Jit pointed out people/astrologers have predicted correctly lot of events -some verifiable. It is just that you are not aware of it. Take the challenge - collect the data of all possible contenders and predict something for 2008 US Presidential elections. MSNBC, political pundits etc will write articles as and when they get news, based on political climate etc. Why give importance to them if you can take 5/6 charts and objectively assess who has the best chance of winning in November 2008? I remember that during March 2000 and around that time Marc Boney, Radha Shenoy correctly predicted Bush's victory. Guest guest
Dear Manjunath and Satish I do think Manjunath is right in inviting Satish to make predictions using what he knows of astrology and therefore put his knowledge to the test. Many astrologers make very accurate predictions about the 'unknown' Satish, and it may be that you just haven't collected these prediction at the time they were made, and subsequently tested their veracity when they came true. For my own part I made a prediction that Brown would perhaps gain the 'throne' by the end of Oct beg of Nov this year, and now have to find out where I went wrong in my understanding of using Parasara and vimsottari, though I think I am now on a way of deeper understanding. I think perhaps you may be going through what in religion may be called the dark night of the soul, where everything you believed in is being tested and challenged at the moment. If you do charts for people on a daily and live basis you should be experiencing that certainly astrology can tell the 'unknown's about a complete stranger sat in front of you who will be amazed you knew things even his or her mother could never have known. I never took up astrology because I believe in it, I persisted in it because I want to know the unknown--everything if possible-- as you seem to do, but on occasions I doubted my abilities and the knowledge and subsequently was more critical of techniques and systems, which is where I think you are coming from now. It is a good stage, but not one at which you must pause for long, otherwise you will never know the unknown or at least how much of it can be known with the use of this science - M. Guest guest
Manju, Do you need Bush's chart to predict that he will leave office in Jan 2009 ? No you do not. I was watching the Mclaughlin group today and he read his prediction done in Sping 2005 ( Yes 2005) full 18 monts prior to the election that Democrats will win the congress. I am sure he used his political judgements than astrology. No astrologer predicted it as far as I know that far back. May astrolgers only get onto the act when the thing is in public's mind and opinion polls are availble. Secondly, the first tenet of astrology as practiced traditionally is that the jatak has to come to the jyotishi with a query. This internet jyotish may be a good thing for learning principles. I doubt any of the candidates have come to most of the astrologers here for a prediction.Secondly I have only seen predictions of the known. I had predicted here that Federal reserve will not raise interest rates. Ofcourse that was the concensus and on cards. Ofcourse I can wrap it some astro jargon and use some techniques in vougue such as tithi pravesha, some divisional charts or some narayan dasha and say the same thing and then claim it as a prediction. I also predicted Federer will win US open ( I mean do I need jyotish for this ? I don't think so). I also predicted Roddick will enetr semis( Did I use jyotish for this ? NO, I saw his form in the US tennis circuit).I have been in this jyotish stuff long enough to know what is and what is not possible and what is pure fluff. Do you have Obama's chart, send it to me and I will do a jyotish analysis and say what I have already said without jyotish. You have written an article on Hillary ( Assuming you are using the correct data, as she is also from chicago) why did you not predict whether she will win the presidential election ? Why stop short ? The point is, jyotish folks should stop preaching to the quire and mutual admiration. Claiming and hailing predictions that are basically statistically pointing to the outcomes anyway will be doing great disservice to jyotish. Satish --- "M. Guest guest
Satish-ji You are missing the point. You are making absolute statements "nobody has done this kind of prediction -about party etc)" without knowing the facts. Subscribe to all/few jyotish magazines and see who has made what predictions (including the editor) and keep track of it for 5-10 years. Then you can make some calls if there are some jyotish astrologers who are world class. Without this you are just making statements without basing it on facts. On the Iraq war people claim they predicted it first etc. I think most of this was written and can be verified. A full 10 months before the war consulting company (Booz) was hired by the US Govt to provide logisitcs support. One who knew this could have easily predicted this the war). Again I am asking you to take publicly available data and predict. Data is on astrodatabank, astro.com etc. Tell me if 1. Mccain will run in 2008 or not. 2. Tell me if he will be the nominee of republican party. 3. Tell me if he win the elections in 2008 Novmeber Senator Biden's data is also publicy available. 1. Answer the same questions. Do the same for others. I am telling you that Senator Clinton will be the democratic nominee. It is a risky prediction without knowing the contenders. She will run into excellent period in March 2008. I am also telling you that Bill Richardson has a bigger role to play. He could potentially be a VP pick. I am also telling you that next year - President Bush will get another opportunity to nominate a US Supreme court justice. And I am signing my name - Manjunath Sharma Talk or writing on jyotish list is easy and cheap. Doing the analysis and putting it out on the jyotish list, or a mazagine or somewhere, where it can be verifable is tough. Put your first name and last name and sign it. We'll see. Guest guest
Here is a feature in The Guardian today about soothsaying US election results which I thought might bring a smile to everyone's face: And now the result that really matters... By Oliver Burkeman / Midterms 2006 10:49am At the beginning of my long, dark night blogging the US midterms last week, I promised life-transformingly exciting Guardian merchandise to the commenters or emailers who came closest to predicting the final results for the House and Senate. Well, the results aren't quite all in - final counts are still awaited in a handful of House races. But it's time to declare some winners on the basis of how things stand now (if those final races change anything, I suppose I might have to add another winner ...). None of you, strangely, predicted a Senate result of 51 (Dems plus independents) to 49 (Republicans): everyone was at least one seat out. So I'm awarding the prize to Dave England, who sent his predictions by email, because he at least called the result in the right overall direction, predicting 52-48 to the Democrats. Dave also did pretty well with the House, predicting 235 to 200 for the Democrats; 230 to 196 seems to be the current picture at time of writing, with 232 to 203 the predicted outcome. But Dave can't possibly have any use for two Guardian mugs, two Guardian t-shirts and two Guardian gym bags, so I'll send the other set to the other closest forecaster, Butlins, who predicted a gain of 29 for the Dems, if he or she cares to email. Don't say I never give you anything. - SPK Sunday, November 12, 2006 8:00 PM Re: 2008 US elections Manju, Do you need Bush's chart to predict that he will leave office in Jan 2009 ? No you do not. Guest guest
Manju, >> I am telling you that Senator Clinton will be the democratic nominee. And I am signing my name - Manjunath Sharma >> You are confirming the points I made. If Hillary runs she has a statistically great chance to be nominee. Just follow the money as they say. She has the most money and most name recognition. The current polls show exactly the same thing. As Chistopher has pointe dout there are many available data for her. Which ones you trust. Richardson may run himself, again a thing that is in the public eye. Last week an one of the talk shows his name was circulated as being a vice presidential pick. So the buzz is already out there. You may come out correct with hillary, but so will many political pundits. To say Hillary prediction is risky is like saying predicting Federer will win most tournaments he eneters is risky without knowing his opponents. She is the front runner and has the most money. I have predicted with my name on it that Obama will not win. It is in writing. I do not have data for others. You had also predicted that Gonzalez will be nominated to supreme court and that Miami won't win NBA based on chart of Shakeel Oneal. I am not pointing to a failed prediction but the fact that when one predicts based on polls and conventional wisdom, one does not need astrology to do the prediction. You also predicted many correct ones like Alito will be confirmed by us senate and Roberts will be confirmed by US senate. Now what percentage of nominnes do not get confirmed. Very low, over 90 percent get confirmed. When the nominating president and the congreesional parties are the same, the percentage is probably extremely high. So statistically possibility of such prediction going wrong are very low. I am not saying you are doing it, but if one goes and claims this to be a great prediction and others hail it as a proof of astrology as super science, I think it will be a mistake. Last presidential election, did anyone predict Kerry will win the nomination before Iowa and New Hamshire, I do not think so. Why, because that time Howard Dean was the front runner so no one bothered about Kerry. Send me the data of the people you talked about and I will do an astro analysis and make my predictions, in writing.I have already made one on Obama, if you do not want to accept it as prediction that is your choice. Guest guest
Manjunathji, I commend you for putting out predictions with your name on it. The point is most predictions done are statistically pointing to the outcome anyway. I had also predicted federer will win, federal resever will hold interest rates ( But the probability of that happening was very high anyway). I see most astrolgers predicting the known conventioanl wisdom and not the unknown. That is the whole point. Satish --- "M. Sharma" <nakshatras > wrote: > Satish-ji > > You are missing the point. Guest guest
Dear Satish ji and Manjunath ji, Non astro Posting: In my personal opinion, US politics is primarily male dominated and there is very little chances that Hillary be nominated for the position. Yes, most media is talking about Hillary be the most likely candidate, but just wait and see - how is she denied for the position. regards / Prafulla Gang Besides the noble art of getting things done, there is the noble art of leaving things undone. Guest guest
Hi, You may have a point there. But there are many women candidates that won in the recent election. If you look at the result of last election, you will see that Democrats won by getting many conservatives ( in mold of republicans) to run. Webb who won in virginia was a secretary in the Regan administration and many others. So democrats will make a mistake if they nominate hillary. She has the most money though nand money coupled with frenzied emotion can make her win the nomination. Satish P.S. Biden may run. To say Biden will get comitte chairmanship is a given as he is already a ranking democrat on the committee so in line to get the gavel --- Prafulla Gang <jyotish (AT) inbox (DOT) com> wrote: > Dear Satish ji and Manjunath ji, > > Non astro Posting: > > In my personal opinion, US politics is primarily > male dominated and there is very little chances that > Hillary be nominated for the position.
