i am confused with the concept of mooltrikona

 

some says that moon has mooltrikona in cancer, other says it has

mooltrikona in taurus 10-20 degrees

 

please clearify.

Just stick to Parasara..third chapter/51 sloka. Taurus after 3 degrees.

Do not get confused, here is the clarification:

There are 7 + 1 = 8 dignities expierenced by any one of the seven

grahas when it is in a sign/varga(division of a sign)which are as

under(in the ascending order of status):

1)Adhi-satru

2)Satru

3)Sama

4)Mitra

5)Adhi-mitra

6)Swa

7)Moolatrikona and

8)Ucha

All these are basically required to evaluate Saptavargaja bala i.e.,

one of the five sub-categories of Stana bala which is the first of

the six-fold or Shadbala of the Sapta-grahas. The last two

diginities are slightly different from other five depending on their

context. These two are applicable (while evaluating the Saptavargaja

bala) only to the placement of a planet in a Sign(rasichart) but not

any fraction/division of it. Whereas the other five are applicable

to both a sign and a division of it. Hence, we should understand the

above 8 categories in two groups which are : 1) Prathama or primary

and 2) Dvitiya or secondary. Prathama tells about moolatrikona and

Ucha whereas Dvitiya tells about five or panchadha maitri

relationship. Before knowing the specific moolatrikona portions of a

planet, total of all moolatrikona portions of 7 planets, we should

also study Ucha portions in comparison to Moolatrikona portions (you

will understand its significance shortly). I would like to give

below the particulars of these two diginities for the seven planets:

Planet Ucha Degrees Range in (DD-MM-SS) Param-Ucha

Sun Aries 10 00-00-01 to 09-00-00 01 degree after Ucha

Moon Taurus 03 00-00-01 to 02-00-00 01 degree after Ucha

Mars Capri 28 00-00-01 to 27-00-00 01 degree after Ucha

Merc Virgo 15 00-00-01 to 14-00-00 01 degree after Ucha

Jup Cancer 05 00-00-01 to 04-00-00 01 degree after Ucha

Ven Pisces 27 00-00-01 to 26-00-00 01 degree after Ucha

Sat Libra 20 00-00-01 to 19-00-00 01 degree after Ucha

In this way, any planet's Ucha degree starts from the beginning of a

sign but not in mid way of a sign. Whereas moolatrikona starts

either from beginning or midway. Let us see the following table of

moolatrikona(M.T)as per Vidhyamadhaveeyam of Madhava-acharya a well

known authority on horary and electional astrology

As per Saravali, it 15 degrees for Venus in Libra which ranges 00-00-

01 to 15-00-00 (which is 10 more to the Madhava's text). The total

of M.T degrees is 109 as per this text. Please note this point

Again, coming to the rules for finding the three fold relationships

for a planet (which in turn leads to five-fold relationship which in

turn lead to foundation for saptavargaja bala), it is said that

counting from a moolatrikona sign of a planet:

1) Chaturasra (4, 8), 2, 12 (sameepa-bhavya - adjacent to present

tense - signs) and 5, 9 (Doora-bhavya - far to present tense -

signs) signs lords will be friends to a planet

2) Lord of sign where the planet under study gets exalt is also

friend

3) If any lord of the above said two categories appear in both

instances will be neutral

Hence in this way, natural three-fold relationship is evaluated.

Please note in the above rules, Moolatrikona and Ucha signs are

important for knowing natural three fold relationship. Hence, Ucha

and Moolatrikona are grouped into a single group and other five

diginities which arise due to five fold relationship are grouped

into another.

In such a case, if we compare the total degrees of Ucha and M.T they

are found multiple or factors of 9(if we consider Madhava's text)

which are 11 and 12 multiples of 9.

I can further explain the reason for order of Ucha, Moolatrikona

etc. But, I would advise you to approach a well qualified guru to

know the secrets of Indological sciences like Astrology.

I would like to add moolatrikona signs of Rahu and

Ketu. Rahu is in moolatrikona in kanya rasi and Ketu

in meena. Also, every graha that is in moolatrikona

has some work to do, they are like in office. So for

example, Sk is in moolatrikona in tula rasi - and its

job is to brong spouse - it is natural 7th bhava, Gu

moolatrikona sign is in danu rasi - natural 9th bhava

- and has job to bring and maintan dharma and to bring

children etc.
