Guest guest
Dear Mrs Wendy, Thanks for clearing my query on Jup's conjunction. Could you please guide whether Bhava Chart should be used or we should rely mostly on Rasi Chart ? If we use Bhava Chart, what Bhava Chart method is most reliable ? I mean Sripati etc ? Also, how do we judge when a planet changes house in Rasi vis-a-vis Bhava Chart ? Thanks in advance, Regards, Rajat
Guest guest
Dear Rajat, To the best of my understanding the Bhava Chakra, calculated with the equal houses system, is used (according to Parashara) for calculating specific strengths of the different planets... For example: If a planet's position coincides to the house cusp, then it will give 100% influence on the significations of that house. If it's at 15° from it, then its influence is 0%. While occupying the degrees in between the two, their influence changes proportionately. The influence of the planets falling into the first part of a house will increase by time, while those placed in the second half will decrease. And again we see http://jyotishvidya.com/ch28.htm **In Ashtaka Varga, add Bindus (auspicious points) and deduct Karanas (inauspicious points). If a bhava extends to two Rasis, the rectification will be done as per both the lords. In that case whichever Rasi has more Bindus that Rasi will yield more favorable results concerning that Bhava. If both the Rasis have more auspicious Bindus take the average. Thus the auspicious and inauspicious effects of a bhava be understood.** Modern astrologers have adopted various ways of using these (bhava) charts...it's generally accepted that the Sripati (bhava) chart is medieval Greek in origin. The simple answer to your question is that the Janma Kundali (Rasi) is THE horoscope whilst Bhava charts and Divisional charts are (basically) addendums used for specific purposes...hope I'm not being too simplistic here...just wish to convey that Rasi is the prime horoscope. Other members could (but probably won't) share their own insights on this. Unfortunately, Mercury, both combust and retrograde, is (obviously) non-supportive of smooth communications at this time :-( Best Wishes, Mrs. Wendy http://JyotishVidya.com jyotish-vidya ___ - "vedvigyan" <bentleyclothing > <jyotish-vidya> Wednesday, November 08, 2006 2:09 PM Bhava Chart or Rasi Chart Dear Mrs Wendy, Thanks for clearing my query on Jup's conjunction. Guest guest
Dear Rajat, // Other members could (but probably won't) share their own insights on this.// Mrs.Wendy tempts me by above to answer this question though my views may not be accepted by many here. Normal Lagna Kundli is actually known as Khokha Kundli. Khokha means translated into English, a Carton.(Wooden on paper Corrugated). Many times the Khokha Kundli apparently shows many great promises by planets in exaltations, many great Yogas, superb Dhana Yogas or Rajgogas, but in fact the native lives a life of misery in real life. The answer lies in the BhavaChalit Kundli. The Khokha Kundli may be compared to a Carton showing on top cover that it contains Alphonso Mangoes, but on deep observation (Bhava Chalit) it is known that there may not be any Alphonso mangoes at all, but on the contrary sour unripe mangoes which are of no use and unpalatable. An example- Mars Rahu in Leo in Lagna Kundli in Ascendant shows a great Time when Mars or Rahu Dasha will come in natives life. As Mars is yogkaraka for Leo Lagna and Rahu being node combined with a YogKaraka and placed in Kendra, too would give superb results positive in its MahaDasha. But suppose one checks Bhava Chalit he may find that Mars and Rahu have gone in the 12th cusp of the horoscope. Now after viewing this position one can say that all the Great Yogas one could have reported after seeing apparent Janma Kundli, now stand defunct with this placement in 12th Cusp. Because Mars and Rahu now having gone in 12th would on the contrary create problems in domestic life, in property matters, happiness in family, mother suffering, education breakdowns, No naterial progress, career disruptions, and lots of money going away through many sources. So in Predictive astrology we, were taught as students to always predict from the Bhava Chalit and not from the normal Kundli, and normal Kundli may only be seen for judging aspects. Anyway these are my views and one may correct these or not take them as authentic, whatever one wishes. regards, Bhaskar. jyotish-vidya, "Wendy Vasicek" <jyotish wrote: > > Dear Rajat, > > To the best of my understanding the Bhava Chakra, calculated with the equal > houses system, is used (according to Parashara) for calculating > specific strengths of the different planets... > > For example: > If a planet's position coincides to the house cusp, then it will give 100% > influence on the significations of that house. Guest guest
Dear Wendy, //Other members could (but probably won't) share their own insights on this.// OK, let me try. Though I promised to you that I will stick to Parashara only on this forum, I am giving my personal opinion as yourself has prompted for the same. I assume that I am not breaking my promise :-)) Dear Rajat, In fact, I was also in search of answers for the question you have raised. Dear Wendy is probably right when she says that Rasi chart is THE horoscope and other charts simply are addendums. I agree with that. Things make more sense when we look at the Rasi chart using the the right addendums. After some search and questioning other astrologers, I am inclined to accept the following theory: When the bhava chart is similar to Rasi chart there are no issues. However, in some cases, some planets occupy a adjacent house as Lagna becomes the reference point for the house division. Let us take an example: Say in a Rasi chart with Simha Lagna, Guru is in Libra and in the bhava chart Guru is in Virgo. How to interpret the indications of Guru? The answer that seems logical to me is - When we want to find the dispositor, look at the Rasi chart. Here the dispositor for Guru is Sukra and not Budha. While looking at which house Guru influences by virtue of occupancy, look at the bhava chart. He occupies the second house and will give the results in line with the 2nd house signification. The above example is taken from my chart. Guru the planet indicating expansion is sitting in the house of family and education. If I look at my Guru MD, following related major events took place in my life: - Did my post-graduation in Engineering - Got married - Blessed with two daughters This period also was important in terms of career as Guru aspects the 10th house. - Got my first job - My career path was excellent, with great opportunities coming my way and took me to new places which I never imagined - Also moved to my second job - I was promoted two levels up in one shot during Guru-Rahu period within 6 months of joining my second job(note that both Guru Rahu are closely together in 2nd Bhava and Guru aspecing the 10th). - Did lots of job related air travel (again, Guru is the significator for air travel). Just to give an idea of the amount of travel, it was more than 20 international trips to Europe and USA. Much more local travel within India. Frequency of trips was significantly higher during Guru-Rahu period Guru also aspects my 6th house. - My health was very good during this period. Only one thing that troubled me occassionally was acidity/gas problem. It could have been becuase of Guru's association with Rahu. - Overall, I feel that Rahu's association with Guru enhanced my material success in Guru MD. Note that Rahu is a vargottama in my chart and sitting the nakshatra of yogakaraka Kuja. Again, the problem is what bhava chart one should look at. Each one seems to have their own opinion. What works for me is Sripathi Bhava and I follow it. You may have to find something that works for you based on your own experience and style of reading a chart. Dear Wendy, I am sure you have some comments to make on my above explanation. I always enjoy studing your point of view. One thing I am trying understand in my chart is that what is the indication of Budha and Sukra occupying 12th Bhava? Guest guest
Dear Krishna, Sorry for coming in, but I agree with what You have written in essence.Good explanation. Yes the Raasi will remain same as You mentioned and only Bhava results would vary. For instance Your example, as You rightly mentioned, Guru would remain in Libra and give effects of Guru in Libra, but Bhava effects it would give of second house. Means the dispositor would not change. regards, Bhaskar. jyotish-vidya, Krishnamurthy Seetharama <krishna_1998 wrote: > > Dear Wendy, > > //Other members could (but probably won't) share their own > insights on this.// > > OK, let me try. Guest guest
Dear Bhaskar, Thank you for your contribution...hopefully I'll be able to read through it thoroughly (sometime) tomorrow.. Rajat has a lot to mull over :-) Best Wishes, Mrs. Wendy http://JyotishVidya.com jyotish-vidya ___ - "Bhaskar" <bhaskar_jyotish (AT) (DOT) co.in> <jyotish-vidya> Wednesday, November 08, 2006 5:36 PM Re: Bhava Chart or Rasi Chart Dear Rajat, // Other members could (but probably won't) share their own insights on this.// Mrs.Wendy tempts me by above to answer this question though my views may not be accepted by many here. Guest guest
respected members, wendyji, bhaskarji and others, this is a very interesting discussion. May i ask the learned members, if it's ok to bring as example to test the applicational side of this debate about bhava kundali's significance. In my bhava kundali ketu goes from 12th to 1st, sun from 5th to 4th, rahu from 7th to 6th and Jupiter from 8th to 7th. In rasi they are in 1st, 5th, 7th and 8th respectively. What might be the significance of these, if at all. I can mention the birth details if members are interested. Major points of interest for me are the present running Sun mahadasha and Jupiter antar. Guest guest
{Om Namo Narayanaya} Dear Krishna ji, Bhaskar ji, Namaskar. When assessing transits, how do you go about it? Eg: In my chart, in Rasi Jup&Sat are in 7th in Sag, Moon, Merc, Ketu in 10th Pisc, Sun in 9th in Aquarius, Ve and Ma in Cap, Rahu in virgo. In Bhava, Rahu is in the 3rd, Leo, Jup in the 6th in scorpio, Sat and Mars in 7th in Sag, Venus in Cap, Sun, Moon,Merc and ketu in the 9th Aquarius. The present transit of jupiter in Scorpio, should it be referenced to the moon in the Pisces or Aquarius? and as you said, would Jupiter though in Sagittarius would give the results of the 6th Bhava? For the MD running would the Bhava chart be applied? Eg I am running Venus MD and Rahu AD, in the bhava chart both are 6/8, should I take that into account for judging the effects of the AD? Questions galore, pardon me. If you have the time please clarify. Guest guest
Dear Shiv and list members, I have been following the discussion here on Bhava and Rasi charts. It is to be noted that the planetary positions in a Rasi chart of a native may change in a Bhava chart. If it is not taken into consideration we are likely to go wrong in our predictions. Sumeet Chugh in his "Timing of Events" at page 24 of that book gives as example the chart of Harshad Mehta born on 29th July 1954 at 10.20 hrs at Mumbai (Bombay). According to him in Harshad Mehta's Rasi chart, the 2nd lord Venus is in the 12th house. He states that such position "cannot give the legendary wealth which the native was able to accumulate. It is due to the fact that in the Chalit Chakra Venus has shifted to the ascendant. This example again demonstrates how risky it is to ignore the Chalit chakra." Wendy ji alluded to the importance of studying the Bhava chart along with the Rasi chart Hope this helps clarify matters. Guest guest
Dear David and All, //He states that such position "cannot give the legendary wealth which the native was able to accumulate. It is due to the fact that in the Chalit Chakra Venus has shifted to the ascendant. This example again demonstrates how risky it is to ignore the Chalit chakra."// Braha states that the sages have declared this (Venus in 12th) to be an excellent placement for wealth. The native will be a lavish spender, enjoying many luxuries, will sleep on fine beds with ornaments etc.. Add to this Venus' dispositor (12th lord Sun) conjunct 11th lord Moon in 11th (Surya-Chandr Yoga) and Venus participation in both Durudhara and Ubhayachari Yoga, and we have the promise of great wealth (in Rasi). I am of the belief that neither bhava nor divisional charts can give what is not promised in Rasi. David

Guest guest
Dear Mrs Wendy and others learned members participating in this discussion : Our varying views on the subject of Bhava versus Rasi Chart proves that this is one of the several issues in our Hindu astrology about which their are various notions. It is difficult to arrive at common consensus on it.It is similar to topics like retrogression, combustion etc. Each astrologer has to come out with his own methodology through his own individual research. However, some of the views of Dr B V Raman on the subject from his book "A Catechism of astrology" are given below for refernce (I am quoting complete paras as some may not have the book handy with them) : Question 1. Should predictions be based on Rasi Chakra (sign chart) or Bhava Chakra (house chart) ? Ans : Bhava Chakra is to be followed unless otherwise stated in the text. For example in Ashtaka Varga, Rasi Chakra has to be followed. All yogas are classified under 7 heads, and we will see that some yogas are based on Rasi and some on Bhava, and we have to make careful distiction between the two. Sakata and Kesari Yogas are to be read from Bhavas only according to Laghu Jataka Sarvaswa Chapter III. In reading the effects of planets from position, viz., Bhava Phala and Asraya Phala (effects for Rasi). Question 2. How do you reconcile the position of a Kendra planet if the planet lies in a Kendra in Rasi Chakra and Kona (trine) in a Bhava Chakra ? Ans : Asraya effects are to be told for Rasi Chakra and Bhava effects for Bhava Chakra. The two should not be mixed. Yogas wherein Rasi effects are to be looked into must be only those caused by the position of planets in Rasis. Yogas caused by Bhava positions are quite different from those brought about by Rasi positions. Ancient authors have clearly pointed out these when describing yogas. Where no explicit mention is made, the refernce is to be Bhava positions only. Question 3. Should Yogas be reckoned from Bhavas or Rasis ? Ans : This is the most controversial question. But for the purpose of horoscopic interpretations , yogas may be said to depend upon Rasis and not Bhavas. Chandra Yogas, Ravi Yogas and several of the nabhasa Yogas have refernce to raiss and not Bhavas. Parsasra is inclined to view that kendras refer to rasis hile Balabhadra the author of HORARATNAM holds the kendras refer to the 4th, the 7th anf the 10th Bhavas. Parasara's view must doubtless prevail in matter. Therefore yogas which are based on the dispostion of planets in kendras have also to be reckoned in terms of the Rasi Chakra. Further, page 40 of How to Judge a Horoscope, Chapter 4 : Concering the First House : "In the delineation of any house, it is the Bhava that is important and not the Rasi. The differnce between the Rasi and Bhava is explained in my book 'Manual of Hindu Astrology' ". by Dr B V Raman. James Braha, Gopesh K Ojha, William Levacy are some of the astrologers who give primary importance to Rasi Chakra. There are several astrologers including Sumeet Chugh that give a lot of weightage to Bhava Chart. David Frawley also advises to look at Bhava Chart especially for seeing the mid cusp of 10th Bhava. In this mail I am giving the details that I have been pondering over so as to arrive at some conclusion. I need to research my own chart and chart of my family members whom I know well to find what give results that match, Rasi or Bhava . Seeking further guidance and opinions from learned members. Guest guest
Dear Rajat Bhai, That was interesting. (My personal Experience) The Yoga does change at times. For ex. Gajakesari Yoga- If it is there in Raasi chart but suppose Jupiter moves away in Bhava Chalit and now not in kendra from the Moon, this Yoga would not prevail. Same with Chandradi and other Yogas. Even PanchaMahapurusha. and Suryadi Yogas. And normal Dhana Yogas too. This is the key why certain horoscopes which are so full of beautiful occurrences, do not actually fructify. And in those peoples charts who do not have any Normal Dhan Yogas apparently, are running a very rich easy life. Same for marriages when it is understood that marriage is going to be fine, but after marriage if one checks would find Sun or Mars in 7th in Bhava Chalit.which may be cause for disuptions. Uptil few years back I used to look at Rasi charts, but when realised so many matters not happenning as they should, and when learnt about Bhava Chalit, then came to know why so. But at the same time,we cannot deny that, the experts can also judge from the Rasi Charts, maybe due to extensive concentrated learning, proper way of life, conduct, and intuitive power brings them to the actual truth, while others like us have to find solutions from the Bhava chalit. Is not the Nadi system based on Rasi placements and transits therefrom ? And yet they are able to give astounding results from these placements. So to each his own. But You have given a good reference and I too have this book, but dont remember having read these passages. Good that You pointed out. Hard work. regards, Bhaskar. -- In jyotish-vidya, "vedvigyan" <bentleyclothing wrote: > > Dear Mrs Wendy and > > others learned members participating in this discussion : > > Our varying views on the subject of Bhava versus Rasi Chart proves > that this is one of the several issues in our Hindu astrology about > which their are various notions. It is difficult to arrive at common > consensus on it.It is similar to topics like retrogression, combustion > etc. > > Each astrologer has to come out with his own methodology through his > own individual research. > > However, some of the views of Dr B V Raman on the subject from his > book "A Catechism of astrology" are given below for refernce (I > am quoting complete paras as some may not have the book handy with them) : > > Question 1. Guest guest
Dear Rajat, //Our varying views on the subject of Bhava versus Rasi Chart// It cannot be a question of (any) other chart verses Rasi...other charts, including Bhava chakra, strengthen or weaken what's indicated in Rasi. //"In the delineation of any house, it is the Bhava that is important and not the Rasi. The differnce between the Rasi and Bhava is explained in my book 'Manual of Hindu Astrology' ". by Dr B V Raman.// In Janma Kundali the rasi (sign) and the bhava (house) are one and the same and, because the rasi is now a bhava/house, the delineation (naturally) is per the significations of the bhava/house. Using Krishna's chart as an example, we wouldn't say, "the ruler of Scorpio has gone to Taurus" or, "the ruler of Cancer has gone to Taurus"...this tells us nothing because the rasi is now a bhava and has to be interpreted as such! So, we would say, "the lord of 4th has gone to 10th" or, "the lord of 12th has gone to 10th". Indeed, I agree that, in the delineation of any house (house and bhava are synonymous BTW), it is the bhava/house that is dominant and not the rasi/sign. Traditionally Bhava Chakra is an aid to determine the positional strength of the planets. Using bhava chakra (equal house), the Ascending degree is considered as the centre of the bhava/house which extends 15 degrees either side; the closer a planet is to this (central) point, the greater its effect in that bhava/house. Guest guest
Dear Wendy ji, Thank you for taking your time to further explain the matter under discussion. However, I am finding it hard to accept an exception to the rule that Venus as the ruler of the 2nd house posited in the 12th house ( a dusthana), is an excellent placement for wealth. I did read James Braha's book and he mentions that sages have so declared. I wonder whether we could accept such a blank statement without verifying its validity in the absence of a reference? I would be glad if you would kindly clarify the above mentioned exception to the rule. Thanking you. Guest guest
Correction: //Traditionally Bhava Chakra is an aid to determine the positional strength of the planets.// To avoid any confusion, it should be made clear that the Bhava Chakra, calculated with the Equal Houses system, is used for calculating the Sphuta Bala (residential strength) of the different planets. The five strengths under the heading of Sthana Bala are referred to as positional strength. As said earlier, if a planet is close to the midpoint of a Bhava (midpoint being Asc degree) it is given a high Residential Strength and if it is located at the edge of a Bhava it gets a low Residential Strength. A planet with a high Residential Strength is strong while a planet with a low Residential Strength is weakened. I'm well aware that many interpret the bhava chart in different ways, with some even giving it favour above the Janma Kundali (Rasi). However, my own thoughts (obviously) are along the traditional line. Best Wishes, Mrs. Wendy http://JyotishVidya.com jyotish-vidya ___ - "Wendy Vasicek" <jyotish (AT) optusnet (DOT) com.au> <jyotish-vidya> Thursday, November 09, 2006 11:51 PM Re: Re: Bhava Chart or Rasi Chart Dear Rajat, //Our varying views on the subject of Bhava versus Rasi Chart// It cannot be a question of (any) other chart verses Rasi...other charts, including Bhava chakra, strengthen or weaken what's indicated in Rasi. Guest guest
Dear David, Here is one that comes to mind: HoraSara Ch.3: Strength of Grahas **Venus has strength, if he occupies the 3rd, the 6th or the 12th from Lagna. He is also strong, when in retrograde motion, when ahead of Sun, during the portion of the day that follows mid-day, when in exaltation Sign, and in the north of Grahas. Venus has no strength in the initial portion of a Sign, but has it in the middle, while at the end of a Sign, he is only of medium strength. He is also strong in the company of Moon, or, when victorious in war between Grahas.** Will look for other referrences (more specific if possible) as time permits. I know I've read (several times) that Venus in 12th is beneficial in terms of wealth...highly praised in fact...but where to lay my hands on these slokas now? But I'll see what I can do, perhaps other members can also do a search for some references. The native will be a lavish spender, enjoying many luxuries, will sleep on fine beds with ornaments etc.. Add to this Venus' dispositor (12th lord Sun) conjunct 11th lord Moon in 11th (Surya-Chandr Yoga) and Venus participation in both Durudhara and Ubhayachari Yoga, and we have the promise of great wealth (in Rasi). This example again demonstrates how risky it is to ignore the Chalit chakra." Guest guest
Dear Krishna, //Thanks for your inputs. I am very keen to see how you would explain the events in my Guru MD through Rasi chart alone. If I see the proper explanation, I will stop looking at the Sripathi Bhava chart and will stick to Rasi chart alone.// Let's have a look then whilst my attention is on this...out of site, out of mind seems to be the way things are for me these days, I'm afraid :-( //The above example is taken from my chart. Guru the planet indicating expansion is sitting in the house of family and education. If I look at my Guru MD, following related major events took place in my life:// You're obviously using Sripati as Jupiter remains in 3rd otherwise. I think I mentioned earlier that Sripati is believed to be medieval Greek in origin and, although seemingly popular today, I doubt if it has any legitimicy in Vedic astrology...I don/t know, but regardless, I don't use it, so can't really comment. //- Did my post-graduation in Engineering// It's necessary to have dates to get the full picture i.e. sub-dasas, transits etc. However, I'm sure we can assume that post-graduate studies come under the jurisdiction of 9th (higher education). Note Jupiter in nakshatra of 4th/9th lord Mars. //- Got married// Jupiter's dispositor (Venus) aspects 7th from lagna. //- Blessed with two daughters// Karaka for children (Jupiter) lords 5th house of children. //This period also was important in terms of career as Guru aspects the 10th house.// Look at the connection in your horoscope! 10th/3rd lord Venus, dispositor of Jupiter and Jupiter's star lord Mars), conjuncts lagna lord in lagna etc.. //- Did lots of job related air travel (again, Guru is the significator for air travel). Just to give an idea of the amount of travel, it was more than 20 international trips to Europe and USA. Much more local travel within India. Frequency of trips was significantly higher during Guru-Rahu period// Krishna! have you not even noticed 12th lord Moon in 10th conjunct Mars...star lord of BOTH Moon and Jupiter? I will leave it here for now...perhaps you can give some dates to confirm these events. Guest guest
Dear Wendy, Looks like with your vast knowledge, you will be able to find perfect reasoning for events in my case as well, as always! Thanks a lot for taking time to look at my chart. I am very keen to understand your way of looking at my chart. For me, the best way to learn is to understand my own chart first as I can relate to events much better. I have no doubt that this will give me a great lesson in Astrology. As suggested, I am giving some important dates here: - Post Graduation: from August 1980 to July 1982 - Joined first job: 22-Jul-1982 - Married on 16-May-1984 - First daughter: 15-Jul-1985 - First trip abroad: 1-Feb-1986 (three month trip) - Lived in Switzerland with family from 7-Oct-1987 to Oct 1990 - Second daughetr: 11-Jan-1990 - Bought a plot in Dec. 1990 at Bangalore - Built my own house and moved into it on 28-Oct-1993 - Second job: 26-Apr-1995 - Promoted two levels up with significant salary jump (salary actually was DOUBLED!): New position was given in Sep. 1995, however, new salary was counted from 1-Jan-1996 onwards. - Reached highest level in my career (Director) in Oct 1998 (note during Saade Saati! and Sani MD) - Father expired around midnight of 5-May-2000 - Quit my job on my own to focus on my hobbies (I was also unhappy as I was stagnating, 6 years in the same role). Last working day was 17-Dec-2004. - My first poetry collection was published on 21-Oct-2006 after almsot one year of delay as I had to wait for a famous writer to write the 'Foreword' for my book and also because of the busy publisher.
