Dear Krupa,

Namaskar.

I recall my own bewilderment when one had just begun to come closer to the teachings of Sri Jagannath Center and Pt. Sanjay Rath. Studying these things is, I think, to get closer to Brihaspati. It often happens, that even quality research based work (Rahu) in Jyotish keeps one bereft of the joys of Paramparic Jyotish, which also gives an eternal and pure feeling to the interpretation of classics such as Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra. So, it is a matter of fortune if the feeling of being overwhelmed is just a precursor to the partaking of the wise, Sattwic world of Brihaspati.

Sanjay Ji said at SJC Attri once: I am lucky to be close to the Parampara and so are you.

Regarding the matter at hand now, some of the things I have learnt are stated hereunder.

For transits, you can see the Gochar of the Mahadasha lord based on the Rashi it is transiting. This is used to judge health. The Gochar of the Antardasha lord can be judged to determine the quality of sleep.

Shani's lordship is not to be taken into account in Gochar unless he is Dasha lord. In the Sade-Sati, for example, or Kantak, it is delivering the results of past onerous Karma. This should be seen with the Gochar of Guru. For Kantak, the location of Shani in the 4th is less troublesome than the other stations from which he aspects the 10th House. The 4th station will impede the cure for disease.

Saturn in the 3rd from AL will give a lot of initiative.

For matters of health, if you apprehend trouble, it is a good idea to study the Somnath Drekkana. Agni Tattwa Grahas in Lagna can dry up the Ojas (this is from an article by Willa Keizer in the Jyotish Digest on the subject). Transit of these planets in the Lagna of this chart can also indicate disease. Impact of the Gochar Chandra on natal Rahu can show the adverse psychological states resulting from diagnosis.

In the same vein, Shodhita Ashtakavarga can also indicate lack of immunity and the onset of disease when Saturn transits a sign where he has contributed zero Bindus. (This is also from that excellent article in the Jyotish Digest on the subject).

Techniques such as the Dasha Pravesha Chakra can also be used.

The statement of Pt. Rath that one lifetime is not enough to study everything in Jyotish is becoming increasingly clear. Thus worship of Sri Vyasadeva to be able to store and use this vast knowledge is important, just as some other Mantras for the proper appreciation of charts. These Mantras are available in the MP3 recordings at Jaimini SJC.
