Aghoris

 

Death is a confronting process for many cultures

throughout the world but a radical sect in India

believes that contact with death and decay is a

powerful opportunity for spiritual development. The

Aghoris haunt cremation grounds and practice extreme

rituals, such as eating faeces and human flesh, and

drinking intoxicating substances from skulls. By

consuming substances believed to be ritually pulluting

to orthodox Hindus, Aghoris believe they will overcome

the dualistic thinking that is a barrier to becoming
