So eating fruits and veggies are the way to go. Info on the book at Amazon... Dear labd and all ~ what works well for most or many people may be exactly the wrong thing for some others. I have Fibromyalgia (chronic pain), Irritable Syndrome with Severe Gastritis and Ulcerative Colitis, and Chronic Fatigue. Because of the IBS, I am unable to eat anything that has a lot of fiber in it. I tried, and got sicker than anyone wants details about. Then I tried "Heather's IBS Diet" (based on soluble fiber), and I did better, but I wasn't eating very much. It was very hard for this aging hippy, used to make her own granola, raised her daughter on whole wheat and veggies, to learn that my IBS flares were less likely to occur if I ate white bread (or highly processed whole wheat), rice or corn cereals, saltines, etc. Needless to say, my weight plummeted. Some things I thought I couldn't tolerate, I have been able to add back, like yoghurt, which was a mainstay of my diet. If I eat cheese or any milk product at night, though, I have to take lactaid, or I have a bad reaction. I am only sharing this because there has been so much pushing of an all natural, whole foods, raw foods diet lately, and I am the odd duck in ten that this was the absolute worst thing I ever tried. So, people need to work with their doctors or alternative health practitioners; depending on their illness(es), they need to slow and careful about making major diet changes, and, if you're as desperately ill as I am, introducing any new foods, treatments, etc., is best done one at a time, so that if you have a reaction, you know where it came from. So, I am not saying these types of diets that are being proposed are bad ... for some people, they are the road back to being healthier. In my case, they didn't work, and I am only sharing my experience. Blessings all ~ Linda
Guest guest
Dear Linda, Great point. My post was specifically in response to the discussion about cancer and its treatment. Assuming that you can eat veggies and fruits, research seems to favor those in cancer treatment. I wasn't generally pushing healthy foods or raw foods (which I don't think is all that great myself). I wasn't pushing vegetarianism either (after all someone has to show those bovines who's in charge here on Earth - now I'm kidding of course so please all don't attack me). Wish you the best on your recovery from you condition. It's great you have found the diet that works for you.
